I have a South Bend Stage 2 clutch for my ALH (228mm) and the pressure plate has failed prematurely. The clutch and flywheel are still in fine shape. Are there options out there to replace the pressure plate on this clutch? I thought I had read somewhere it's just a Sachs plate anyhow. Maybe something common would be strong enough to hold the same torque?

South bend uses sachs plates then rebuild them with their own parts. Have you tried to contact them directly? They respond quickly and I’m sure will sell just the plate to you.

let me guess, the pivot wire/spring split and flung itself to the outside of the fingers the throwout bearing pushes against causing the clutch to not be able to disengage...

I have had to replace 2 of them.

Define "prematurely" 20k? 200k? How does the fork look? It's not typical but they can bend
Leaning to what growler said though. Such a stupid design.
