Ah, no. The TDI alternator has an overrunning clutch pulley.

The problem with your alternator may well be the over running pulley which is replaceable for a lot less than the garbage alternators that AutoZone sells. The other problem that is common is a worn out brush/regulator assembly, also replaceable.

What are your symptoms? if you need to troubleshoot the overrunning clutch pulley, we can advise you.

It might work if you can swap the pulleys, although the power output for a a TDI is usually higher than the power output for a gasser.

Being that the gassers don't have an overrunning pulley, the gasser alternator with the gasser pulley will destroy your tensioner.

I've been running a 90amp for over two years (three summers)! I got it in a trade. At the time, it was the quickest fix. Put it on and everything has worked fine. I plan to install the 120amp at the next TB change out ......... try at your own risk!
