160K miles. Put new fluid and filter in at 130K when I bought it. That got rid of the slight surge. Will do again at 170K. No power mods until I need/get a manual.

bought mine (from a one owner) with 192000. It had a slight rpm flare. Richard at coolairVW did a valve body overbore and valve replacement for me. I like it!

I replaced my Transmission on my 2004 Jetta PD TDI at 213,000 miles and I drove it to the dealer slamming gears. I now have just about 270,000 miles and is OK but you never know Im saving for a new trans just in case.

Mine lasted about 160k, but 10k of that was with no reverse gear and at least 60k of it was it acting up in other ways.

I bought it knowing I was going to eventually swap it for a 5 speed.

149 k and. It's running great so far. Only had the car for 2 months, and am second owner. First owner took very good care of it.

I would say it depends more on how the tranny was serviced than actual mileage.
I've got just over 150k on it now it is going just as well as new. I change the fluid and filter every 40k since new just to be safe.

208K on 2000 Golf. Showing signs of going...When it warms up no issues. Just takes a few extra seconds to engage in drive. Then easy on the power until warmed up.
This morning was not dropping down into 4th gear on the freeway...slipping? 62MPH usually approx. 2200 rpm's this morning was 2500-2700. So pulled off did the ole transmission reset and all was good.

To reset the programming to stock values, (and get it to start "learning" your style), try this.
With the engine off turn the ignition key to the "on" position, (not the start position!).
With the key "on", (dash lit up etc..), press the accelerator pedal all the way down to the floor.
Hold it on the floor for "at least" the count of 10.
Switch "off" the key.
Release the accel pedal.
Start car normally.

When I did this I think I lucked out, the transmission is now reset and shifts back to 'normal'

Just turned 180K. Never been serviced as far as I know (not since I bought it at 122K). Recently noticed that there is a "hesitation" before engaging drive or reverse. Is this an early indicator of imminent demise?

gogasfree - That was the first sign with mine. Hestation going into gear. When it warms up does the hestation go away?

I'm looking at my option too. Hoping to do the valve body thing...before she blows....up!

Wish COOLAIRVW was on the west coast, better yet, NW washington state!

threw up the ATF temp sensor code which i reset.:(

at the same time i was also had the ECT sensor code, replaced the ECT sensor.

approx 180k. (from 60K-180K was mostly highway miles) swapped for a 5-speed

It was still working at 180K, but starting to act funny. slow, soft shifts, and very sluggish when cold. occasional slow engagement into reverse.

I had changed fluid at 120 and 160

We squeezed 185k out of my wife's 01m with a mild tune and slightly upgraded nozzles around 145k. Then it died. :(

My 2001 Golf was purchased at 64k with an unknown service history. 82k miles later at 146k miles, my 01M is still going strong with no issues. Unless it was replaced or fixed before I bought the car, it's gone all 146k miles with the only issue being a bad output shaft speed sensor. That was a relatively easy $80 fix. Also, aNut recoded the TCM to sport mode a couple years ago when he changed my timing belt. Other than those two things, it hasn't been touched in all those miles.
