Wow! That's a lot of miles!

How's that DPF holding up? Any CELs or DPF lights? Car still drive fine? Have you noticed if the miles have taken any toll on the DPF?

Anyone know what the max oil ash capacity for these things is?

The car is good except for having to replace the DMF last fall.

I think VAGCOM showed the upper limit as 380. So there are a few miles to go.

Post 222 by MKT, indicates maximum ash load is 175 ml per a dealer test. Ironically I was having my oil changed at the same time he had the test pulled.

Well, looks like the 175 ml maximum ash load may not be an absolute failure point. I'm at 48 ml %@ 64K miles. Monitoring to see when this trips to 57 ml as it appears the levels move at 9 ml intervals.

I was wondering what your numbers were these days... thanks for adding them. I'm also going to have to start checking more often again as I'm approaching 70k this weekend and want to find the trip point for the next level. Last time I checked @ 68k it was still 48ml... according to the table in post #1... looks like 60ml might be the next level.

Comments: 4 oz./ tank of Stanadyne Performance since ~20k miles.

If 175ml is the max allowable (I haven't looked into this), then I have 67ml left, and it means that my DPF is currently 62% clogged. Since I'm currently at 120k miles, my DPF should be clogged roundabout 200k miles, or roughly a little over 2 years from now.

Went to the dealer today and had the DPF checked. As previously posted, I currently have 282,200 miles on the JSW, with 257,000 on the DPF that was replaced under warranty at 25,000 miles. Got the bad news that I was hoping not to hear. DPF has 300 ml of accumulation and service manager said 175 was max allowable. Guess I'm more than just a tad bit over. Anyway, estimate is $2430, of which $1452 is parts and $890 is labor. Breaking down further, the cat converter with particulate filter is $1100 and manifold tube is $245. The remainder are gaskets and misc exhaust parts. No EGR replacement. Advised this would be a 2 day job (10 hours labor). Parts have been ordered and hopefully they will have the job completed by the end of next week.

Just picked up a 2013 JSW with 4800miles, wanted to add some data to the thread, but I'm not sure I'm getting the correct measuring blocks. Here is a screen shot of the groups that previous poster said needed to be read. Are these the correct groups? Car was off, but I did start it and the only value that changed was rpm on group 101.

Looks to be normal. 20 ml of oil ash for 21K miles is what we are seeing. Send me a PM with your car info or just edit your original post with the following....

I'm curious to know if the readings from VW (dealer) are the same from using our VAGCOM tool? The next time I'm at the dealer, I'm going to ask them to scan the car and get the DPF data. Then I'm going to scan the car when I get home. Has anyone done this and compared the readings?

Glad to see some high-mileage cars (pawel, tadurkee, mctdi, dozenspeed). Gives me some hope that I can put off replacing the DPF a little while longer. Plans are to go after-market with a tune. Maybe late Summer or early Fall I'll pull the trigger.

I've updated the list with the latest posts. I also looked at the data by model year and didn't really notice any differences. The ash accumulation is holding steady across all models.

Hope Old-man Winter isn't giving you the blues or keeping you inside. I've been enjoying the snow down here in NC. No isses at all with the TDI.

Hi Folks -

I'm a TDI newbie here with a 2014 Passat TDI.

Before buying the Passat, I did some comparisons to my 2001 Audi A6 2.7t to see how much it would save me.

At today's fuel prices, the Audi costs me 20.8 cents per mile at 19 MPG (which I've tracked since new).

The Passat is now averaging 39 MPG or 10.5 cents per mile.

After 150,000 miles, I'll have saved (10.3 cents difference * 150,000 = ) $15,450.

Therefore, If the DPF fails at 150,000 miles, I'll still be ahead.

Your comparison will vary :)
