Indeed! The Mk4 MAF allows finer fuel control and less smoke. The connectors are different, but Jeff can give you a diagram to swap them. B the way, my car can get(has gotten) 55 mpg with this setup.

It seems to be a requirement when going VNT on a A3/B4. Maybe not but people always seem to use the MK4 MAF at the same time.

Its not a requirement for sure....

What I want to know is why would it make a difference, what advantage would it present in terms of performance.

Cant the MK4 MAF "read" more airflow in the case of a bigger turbo that will be pulling more air.

This is the main reason for the upgrade, no?

Id say the mk3 pierburg is more reliable btw, 10 to 1 in my experience.

I didn't do the conversion but my A3/mk3 is running a A4/mk4 pd150 unit wastegate setup.

The Mk4 reads more and thus reports more info. This translates into better tuning ability, less smoke, more power, better mileage. The older sensors were in fact more reliable, though they saturate at about 800 to the 1250 of the Mk4. In this case, more is better.

data logging maf has shown in the 1100s with the afn software is this a false reading

Please don't change your A3 maf to A4 without changing your computer firmware. In a nutshell, some audi's ran an a4 maf in their AFN110, but the cruise was wired different and requires reassigning pins with this firmware.

I have run all the different AFN110 68 pin (vnt) firmware's, and the one with the A4 maf had the best throttle response at part throttle, but they all give same max power.

Maf calibration is simple and reporting more air is not a mod. hehe.

Don't ask how to do this unless you are willing to convert your WG turbo to VNT! These improvements all led engineers to develop the mk4. Then they discovered it would benefit to be able to control each individual injector event (timing) independant of each other, and the PD was born. Next they discovered multiple injection events for each stroke was cool too, hence the CR was born, whats next? High rpm diesels w/compound turbos!

Jeff ;-)

NOT! Oh, the MAF is the same as on the B4, but that's an A3 in the image.:D
There goes Jon not missing a beat.

Jeff, the reason for the change is the move to the gta2056v so yes I will be moving to a VNT. Care to send me a text or elaborate? Thanks.
