Figured I would share this chart I made, this came about because finding proper MK4 replacement lamps can be difficult. And as we know, these cars always need replacements. So I sat down and started doing research. It turns out that for whatever reason VW engineers decided to use really short life lamps, like 300 hours is typical. I am guessing it has to due with euro efficiency laws because short life lamps are usually more efficient. Reality is that its not going to make a hill of beans difference and will likely cost you in fix-it tickets.
I used some PLT branded lamps from 1000 bulbs in the chart because it was what I could find at a reasonable price. I found a lot of them can be safely interchanged with common American (ie: 1156) with no issues. You also will have the benefit of a much longer life and cheap replacements readily available.
Use the chart at your own risk. There might be errors, typos, or mistakes. If you see something that looks wrong, please point it out. Thanks.
