Has anyone replaced their speakers with quality after market components on their 2009 tdi? I can't seem to find any good info on speaker sizes/quality makes/etc... Would love some help. Thanks.

If it's like an 06, I don't think there is anything that is a direct replacement for some of the locations. However, Crutchfields is probably your best bet.

Thanks for your reply

I tried crtchfield and they basically didn't know exactly what if any replacement speakers were available. Of course, they may mean they didn't have anything themselves that could replace the 2009 speakers.

Ya, that's the downside of having a car that is not mainstream. On my 06, I found that the speakers do sound better after they have a few hours on them.......................

Being that the 06 and 09 are actually the same car except for the engine, ask about options for an 06.

The sound in my '09 TDI is dismal as well....possibly the only aspect of the car in which I am disappointed...wish I'd gotten the upgrade when I bought it...:(

According to Bentleys, my 06 has 3 speakers in each front door and 2 speakers in each rear door (10 total) for both the standard and premium systems. The premium sound system has a control module (amp) under the drivers seat.

be careful! if its anything like my 2006 jetta you may run into some problems.

first of all (and these are based on my 2006), the front door speaker screwhole diameter sizes are 8" woofer, (i think) 3 1/2 mid range and the tweeter in the sail panel. the speaker size in the woofer location is 6 1/2 but the casing around the speaker fills in the rest.

you'll have to drill out the rivets in the woofer location to get them out. not terribly difficult, but it is a little time consuming.

now, if you have a monsoon system you may run into some trouble. the monsoon speakers are 2 ohm, whereas most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. so there will be some loss of power if you have 4 ohm aftermarkets with the monsoon amp.

as much as i love crutchfield, they were not much help with the jetta. last time i checked they only recommend replacing the 3 1/2 mid range (thats the only sing they say will fit...). its a little difficult to find 3 way components in general, though.

if you want to just use a single coaxial 2-way speaker in the woofer location, you'll have to re-wire the system to bypass the stock crossover. audio specialist quoted me about $150 to do this, though your mileage may vary on that.

i'm certainly not an expert and my experiences replacing the front stocks for my 2006 have been somewhat of a nightmare - not sure why VW made this setup so complicated.

also, be aware that the available depth for the front door woofer is very small - you only have about a 1" clearance. depth extenders/spacers will likely be necessary

Any suggestions for replacing the rear door speakers on the 06? I decided long ago to live with the crap factory system and I don't really want to mess with it, but the rear left side tweeter has a raspy sound to it and I thought while I was at it may be a good idea to upgrade the rear speakers entirely. It appears that the tweeter ohm rating may be a problem. Yes?

2009 Bad Radio front Speakers

The sound is so bad that I believe the crossover network wring is switched. One dealer put in 2 radios. Another dealer put is a crosover network, drivers side, and then gave up, stating that the front speaker will sound different than the back ones. Yea, but not like the difference in night and day.

I believe there are a few thousand 2009 Jettas with bad factory wiring.
