I bought my 2000 TDI used about 4 years ago, ever since i bought it the power mirrors nor the heat function have ever worked. I have since changed the mirror glass (they were flaking anyway) and they still dont work. I borrowed a friends vagcom and was wondering if there is a way to check for a problem in the circuitry. I found no blown fuses, maybe that one is missing? Does anyone have that reference? Vagcom reference would also be a plus. Thanks

Thanks for the response Dan, but I have never used a Vag-Com and need a little explanation with that if you don't mind?

turn the car key on, not start.
hook up your cable.
select (upper left of screen) controller module 46
Once communication is established with the controller (numbers on top fill in), then select "fault codes". It should show the faults in the example if they are bad.
You can reset the faults, if you wish. If they are bad they will come in again when you try to turn on the mirror heaters.

No fault codes, but it says heated mirrors are turned off and power mirrors are not operational?
Now i'm having a tough time figure out how to change heated mirrors to on and what it means by power mirror in operational. I can't seem to find out how to do a login or post describing how.

What position is the selector switch in,if it's either L or R position they won't come on.
As for the fuses, here's a handy reference.
It may also be the switch itself.

So by the looks of it, there is no fuse for the power mirrors. I get a POS X- on Mirror Adjustment switch Driver (e43) when i push nob down and when i push to the right when on R (i know same value but that's what it read). Nothing happens when the switch is on L or when its on defrost (vag-com does not say on)

Remove the selector switch and do a continuity test , sounds like it's the culprit given the mirrors don't work either.

The power comes from fuse S5, fuse #5 on the inside fuse panel - along with a lot of other loads. Or at least control power for the heaters comes from fuse 5. It is very hard to tell for sure, but main power for the left door comes from fuse S37, and this may provide power to the heater elements.

If you have power mirrors the power goes through the mirror switch.

If you do not have power mirrors, the power goes through the rear defogger switch.

Checked for broken wires in the door panel with no luck, took the switch apart and tried to clean up contacts a little bit and also again no luck. I hopped on flee-bay and picked up a switch from Hong Kong for 7.50. We'll give that a chance. If not, i'll be back! Thanks guys for your help!
