I got 46.5 MPG calculated doing 560 miles on a tank I still had 100 miles left acording to the MFD, gas light wasn't on either. I wasn't driving for economy either, 75-80 most of the time. Hard not to stay in the left lane. MFD commonly displays trip avg of 50MPG but we all know how true it is.TDI_Coast2Coast said:I got just under 750 on a tank, but it was aided by going down a mountain pass, then driving through flat desert. I averaged about 600 miles per tank.
Just picked up a 2010, and the first tank averaged 40mpg. Salesman said they did make some ECU changes(programming??) and that the 2010 should get a shade better mileage. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea.
stuckless said:I refuse to believe that people are getting over 600 miles on a tank. They must be driving like granny going 55 mph. The old TDI's you could easily get 680. My 2009 TDI can only get around 550.
I don't think you really believe what your saying thepress83. I've also owned diesels for a hell of a long time. I agree, 2009 are not the best mpg wise. But this car is by far better than anything VW has done over the last 25 years!. The problem is, the car is so powerful, that there is always this temptation to press the pedal down the floor to feel the thrust.thepress83 said:I've been thoroughly disappointed with the mileage being returned by my 2009. I've owned 4 diesel jettas since 2002 and know how to drive a diesel. I haven't been able to get more than 700 KM (about 440 milies) to a tank and I'm at about 12,000 KM so far. I completely understand the break in process and that it should improve as I approach 40-50K KM's but I'm very close to selling it and buying a 2003 (again).
Yes, I am a tad confused also. The EPA for the 03 Jetta TDI was 42 C / 49 H combined ? My range has been from 44 to 62 mpg. The EPA for the 09 Jetta TDI was 29/30 C / 40 H combined? I have the DSG and the range has been from 39 to 46.71 mpg. So what about an EPA of 12 mpg to 9 mpg LESS was mis represented? The less mpg is also the PRICE for 90 hp/155# vs 140 hp/236 hp or 53% more hp and # ft of torque.OldMan52 said:I don't think you really believe what your saying thepress83. Unless you drive 100 000 miles per year, the difference in mpg won't make a big difference in your wallet at the end of the year.
We all have pride when we get these terrific scores. But admit, you've got one of the best cars on the market between your hands.
I understand your frustration. My mpg has dropped recently for some unknow reason, and this kind of upsets me also. But I'm sure it's going to come back.
winter belend diesel will drop your FE just a bit, also being colder doesn't help, dense cold air and the time to get up to NOT will hurt you a little bit.OldMan52 said:I understand your frustration.
