Folks:
I just completed my buyback and I will try to give you as best story I can and answer any questions about the buyback experience.

I uploaded my documents the first full day the portal was open (a Saturday) and was NOT one of the first getting their documents approved. Nonetheless after having them approved, I was quick to get my offer (I had no lien and was the sole owner) and within an hour of getting the offer I had it notarized. The day the calendar opened up I selected today (the first available buyback day)
I got to the dealership, Stohlman VW , (Northern VA) almost an hour early. They were excited to see me and said the settlement specialist was there waiting. I was his first customer and he was excited as me. I mentioned that I may be the first in the country and he said "you might be right" Another settlement specialist from another dealership was shadowing him during the process. Everything is conducted on a Samsung tablet. I presented my documents (signed PoA, mileage disclosure ) and keys. He entered the information into the tablet and then we walked out to my vehicle. He started the car and took a picture of the car with the engine running (tach showed idle rpm) I mentioned removing my plates and he said the dealers ambassador would handle that step (more on that later) He took a few more pictures and had me move the car in order to take better pictures He then had me check one last time to make sure all my stuff was out of the car and that was it.

We went back in the dealership and he said I would not need to sign the title since the PoA covered that.
Once he completed the transaction I received an emailed receipt that everything was complete. He said "in his training there were a lot more steps he expected" but nonetheless it was complete. I asked about the EFT and he was shocked because he was told in training that the EFT would be completed by the customer before they arrived. He contacted a support number and it was quickly answered. They indicated that once the process was completed and the email receipt for the vehicle was generated, this triggered the EFT 3rd party (I am assuming its Chase) to send me an email within 24 hours requesting my bank information . At that point the 3 day clock starts.
I asked about the check. He said if the check option is selected, then your handed a paper check at the transaction (if your mileage is equal to the window you entered when you reserved your appt)
If there is a mileage discrepancy affecting the buyback amount, he is directed to write VOID on the check and mail it back to the VW Fatherland for a new check to be mailed to you. He agreed with me that the EFT was the better option as many banks hold large checks for indefinite periods , checks can get lost etc...
He then introduced me to the "ambassador". The ambassador took my registration from me and had another ambassador remove the plates. He indicated to the buyback rep that he needed him to do something before he could take the car into inventory. Once he did that he acknowledged he had the car in his system and they returned with my plates.
He then made small talk about what was "next" and I told him I already had a new car I bought two weeks ago. He said well okay I guess your set .
We shook hands and the settlement specialist walked me out and thanked me again and again for it going so smooth.
He said I was his one and only buyback scheduled today so it looks like they are starting out slow
.

Congrats! I knew the first person to post about the experience wasn't going to use the thread titled "this is what happened at my tdi turn in".

I forgot to mention that... Its $1000 dollar offer but its open to anyone . They are not allowed to offer specific incentives to TDI customers.

Congrats! Glad to see someone has actually completed (or nearly completed as the EFT hasn't hit your bank yet ;-) ) a buyback.

When you get the email from Chase, please post the email address that it comes from. I can add it as another "priority sender" on my phone.

Second question. They talked about reminder phone calls/emails. Did those come, and was there anything of substance in there? How far in advance were these from the appointment?

Will let everyone know the address for sure!! I am checking my spam folder constantly.

I got nothing, no email reminder, no phone call zilch in terms of notification. I answered my phone every call I got the last few days and everything was IRS / Credit Card scam calls

My VW dealer is also a Chevy dealer. If they ask me what is next, I will tell them I am waiting for either the Cruze diesel hatchback, or an electric Bolt.

I might be interested in leasing a Bolt if the price is right.

Did they give you back your paper registration along with the plates? And did you get any paper receipt of your sell back, or will the future e-mail be it?

I got my tags back and I believe they handed me back my registration card (I need to look)

I got a formal paper receipt for the transaction and then the claims.vwgoa.com email address sent me an emailed reciept

Again, "A great write-up". Did you feel any nervousness about getting just an email receipt and your tags back, and then leaving without a car?

Don't forget to call your insurance company to drop coverage for the car :D.

In my case, the tags expire in December, so I won't get a rebate from the state. But then again I won't have to pay for renewal either.

He could care less what it looked like, it was well dented with door dings and scratches, (Northern VA parking lots) the TPMS light was on from it sitting in my garage and the temp dropping , and the check engine light was on for a P0401 code. It was overdue for a fuel filter change and DSG service and covered in dust from being parked. I even ripped the TDI badge off in front of them as a souvenir.

Nice. I am not planning to do the big invasive parts strip I keep reading about here (and on /r/tdi), but I am keeping my gearshift knob. The way things are going, it might be the last stick I'll have owned.

Once again, VW is being creative and making things up:
"They indicated that once the process was completed and the email receipt for the vehicle was generated, this triggered the EFT 3rd party (I am assuming its Chase) to send me an email within 24 hours requesting my bank information . At that point the 3 day clock starts.

He agreed with me that the EFT was the better option as many banks hold large checks for indefinite periods , checks can get lost etc."

First off, VW was given three days to complete the EFT. They weren't directed to use Chase (although they certainly can choose to do so), so their choice of payment process should not give them extra time. The ambassador (above) said that the new step would take less than 24 hours and that time is "extra". It's not a court-approved step, so if you accept that they can add any amount of time...what stops VW from increasing that amount of time? What if it turns out to be a week or two?

More unsettling for me, is the process description when the mileage is wrong and a check is requested. Mine was wrong in the offer (although I did give them a new mileage number when I accepted the offer that might lead them to correcting the amount).

In the court documents, if one goes over the mileage anticipated (and is therefore entitled to less money), the process is supposed to work as described above. But if one undershoots VW's mileage amount and is entitled to more money in the buyback, VW is supposed to provide the check (being a few bucks short) and pay the balance due in a separate check issued after the buyback meeting.

I will add a printout of the agreement to the documents I take to closing.....not that VW seems to feel bound by these details that they agreed to :-(

I wish I would have pulled the RCD-510... I drove home in my 80 year old fathers Tiguan and found his touch screen was broken from him putting the suction cup of his GPS on the touchscreen....

Seniors!!! (I can't give him a hard time, he is 80, driving a 200HP Tiguan and has an iPhone and GPS)

Well personally if this isn't resolved next week sometime, I am going to call in and change to "Check". Yeah, the Credit Union might hold the funds for a week or two to make sure that it is clear, but that's a process that I understand and can accept.
