HERNDON, VA - Volkswagen of America has announced three new models which will be immediately available at dealers.

The first new model is the Rabbit TDI. Available with a 140 horsepower, 2.0L common rail TDI, and either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DSG transmission, the Rabbit TDI has EPA estimated fuel economy ratings of 45 MPG city, 55 MPG highway. List price is $16,940 for the 3-door model.

The second new model is the GTD. This vehicle has a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DSG transmission, and a powerful 204 horsepower 2.0L common rail twin-turbocharged TDI. Estimated fuel economy is 42 MPG city, 56 MPG highway. List price is $24,050 for the 3-door model.

Next, Volkswagen of America is debuting the Polo for the first time in the North American market. This subcompact is popular in Europe, and Volkswagen is all about bringing the best European economy cars to the US. This car is available with a 1.6L, 105 hp common rail TDI, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. EPA estimated fuel economy is 60 MPG city, 80 MPG highway. List price is $11,095, making the new Polo TDI one of the lowest cost new cars available in the US today.

Finally, Volkswagen of America has announced that they have begun an aggressive retraining program for all dealer technicians, and have announced that poorly performing dealerships will lose their franchises immediately. This action has been taken due to complaints of poor dealer service that have been voiced by current and former Volkswagen customers.

Completely off-topic Bob, but I know you deal in IT. Did you hear IBM (yes, International Business Machines - inventor of the PC, yada, yada) has been banned from federal contracts? I don't know why yet, but they came up on the Federal EPLS and we've been informed not to let any new contracts with them.

It has been one helluva day.

It's not BS. Go to EPLS dot GOV and type in IBM.

They are the major sub on one of my half bil USD contracts and we have been scrambling to figure out a way forward.

Apparently there is a procurement integrity issue on an EPA contract and they took the unusual step of barring the entire corporation rather than a specific business unit. Enron was one of the last to receive such treatment.

It will be interesting to see what they did. Bets might include bribery or defective pricing, but that's just speculation.

Don't sell your stock. They only do 2% of their business with us.

IBM and some of its employees received subpoenas from a federal grand jury seeking testimony and documents relating to a contract it sought with the Environmental Protection Agency, the company said yesterday.
The company also has been temporarily barred from receiving contracts with all federal agencies "while the agency reviews concerns raised about potential activities involving an EPA procurement," the agency said in an e-mailed statement. Under a reciprocal agreement among federal agencies, when one issues a ban, the others follow it. The suspension took effect Thursday.
The EPA said it will not comment further on the matter.

You actually had me, only because I live in Northern Virginia and VW just opened up headquarters here (Herndon is in Northern Virginia). I have actually applied for a couple of positions with VW headquarters.

But on second thought, those three offerings are just too good to be true!

Good luck, Nate! I hope you get in, and I hope you can talk some sense into someone with some power to do something.

Well, I have not heard anything from them, except, "Thank you for applying" and that was a month ago. nThey may be waiting a while before they look through their applications, because I do not think the physical move from Auburn Hills, MI has occurred yet. If I work for VW coorporate, it will be a 30 mile each way commute, through NASTY traffic.

Take a look at this opening at VW:

"Service Operations Manager, Herndon, Virginia United States
Posted: Feb 04, 2008
Ensure that the Volkswagen network has the proper processes, policies, systems, capacity, competency and support to efficiently and profitability service Volkswagen vehicles in operation. Participate in development of the Volkswagen After-Sales strategy and assist in coordination of the integration of Quality, Technical Service, Training, Warranty, and Parts Operations with the Brand strategy. Provide specialist consulting and training services that will enable Region After-Sales personnel to expand customer loyalty and market penetration of Volkswagen Parts and Accessories."

Maybe someone on the TDI list could be hired and could set the VW service network straight and improve customer service and get more diesel vehicles in the showrooms!

I quickly researched where VW's new headquarters were before making the post. ;)

(Of course, I also thought they were still in Auburn Hills, but then I thought, wait, the move is this month...)

Actually, considerable back-sliding. Until the big crunch in the '70s, VW made it's reputation on service.

Heyyy Herm, great to see your name in this thread. Guys like you (and many others) keep VWs runing despite the dealerships! AYMK they say Chrysler and VW will collaborate on a new minivan. My young niece (raising a family) says she would not be seen DEAD driving a minivan... no surprise Chrysler has unused capacity. So is she likely to pay a premium for a Dodge minivan badged as a Volksie, then take it to a service organization that Consumer Reports ranks dead last in customer sat??? Is this thread something that began as an April fool story?

None at this time, Looking for a nice one though.
Over on the vortex, there is a news item regarding VW starting a program called Volkswagen TRAC. They are going to try to get VW owners to come back for service. Well me for one they will have to prove to me and many others that they are capable of servicing our cars.
VW service lost my trust years ago and will have to earn my trust that may never happen.

Good luck to them on that. For servecing my TDI no way (can do that myself), for buying parts YES, for getting info on parts & recals and complain to them about them YES. Don't know about others who had experiance with VW dealer in my town, but I never had issues with them, they always give what I wanted to know.
