I purchased my 2012 Jetta in May of 2012 so near the end of the model year and it did NOT have the updated intercooler set-up. My car gave me the hard start scenario after it was -17 degrees one day and in the 40's the next. The dealer said since it was running they wouldn't do the update I raised hell and they said they would do it just to keep me happy I haven't had an issue since but we haven't had the real cold weather either.
