I've been trying to contact ADW for the past week. No response.
I'm using e-mail AND phone calls. Anyone here been in touch with them?

Update: just talked to Daniel this mroning. They have a new shop and have been BUSY.
New shop is in different location so be sure to get address before you try to find them, although they are still in the general vicinity as before.

Happen to have the new address for them? I've been looking at a TDI in Asheville, but would like to have an inspection done before pulling the trigger on it.

Daniel said he'd give me instructions for finding shop in an e-mail but so far no message. Yours is the best info so far, loudspl.
Wish he'd post on here for ALL of us to see.
Anyhow, I guess I can find it...
Edit: I have located a "Bob's Transmission Service" at 920 New Leicester Hwy.
Is this the place?

Got a note from Daniel today.
He lists his address as 2893 New Leicester Hwy (NC63), Leicester, NC.
It is a bit further up the road from Mt. Carmel Road, and not associated with Bob's, so it seems.
Anyhow, I'm heading there tomorrow.

Cool.

I will edit previous post and "TDI Trusted Mechanics" info. so all will have the correct address.

This is the place to go guys if you need an excellent TDI wrench in the WNC area

I challenge anyone to spend a day in Daniels shoes. A one man business is overwhelming at times. Continuous phone calls, 50 emails/day and broken cars keep lining up, flat beds showing up all hours of the day/night, feeding local/state/fed govt tax parasitic consumers, township, EPA, and insurances.
Ask me how I know. Hehe

Keep up the good work Daniel, you are the proud family mule for the next 40 years ;-))

OK...Found the shop.(7/18/2014) Daniel has my injectors.
Apparently he is working alone, no sign of Landon. Is Landon an occasional helper or has another job and maybe works nights at the shop?
I'd advise anyone going there to call ahead to be sure someone will be at the shop.

Landon no longer wrenches from what I've heard. Daniel does a great job and yes, sometimes he gets backed up- but that's not a bad thing! Just make sure you plan ahead and schedule your maintenance with him. 2 timing belts and a head gasket have been done by Daniel and my Golf is still running strong at 235k miles. He's always checking the condition of your car for other problems that could make big headaches down the road and has replaced leaking seals and faulty thermostats for me while having it all torn apart!

Landon does have a job, and a new Harley, and is happy to have his garage back (almost). Daniel may not be able to respond in short order, but he always does. We drive well over an hour to his shop, and after getting burned by non-VW TDI specialists (including the dealer), it's worth it to go to Asheville to have Daniel work on our 2001 Golf. It now has nearly 375,000 miles on it and we just got a 2002 with only 244,000 on it.
His shop has a lift! That will save him a lot of time and aggravation. Easier to get to now as well. It won't be a harrowing experience to bring the car on the trailer if I have to now. I've done it twice to the house, and it's a very close fit.

Amen. The southeast is plagued with these loyal mechanics. We greatly appreciate it and love learning along the way.

Yep, everything Jeff says is very true.

One-man business is quite common in the TDI world:
Daniel Grindstaff
Jon Hamilton
Matt Whitbread
Jason Dignardi
Justin Grow
...and the list goes on

I was introduced to Jon Hamilton in Ohio by a flyer on my windshield. Didn't know these cars could be made fun until a one man business got me hooked!:D

We are very lucky to have guys like Daniel around.

If you're in the WNC/ East TN area, avoid the stealership and give Daniel some more work to do! :)

Echoes to all the positive things that have been said about Daniel and his competency and work ethic. I've used him for 5 years, on my 2003 Jetta Wagon TDI, and more recently on a 2009 JSW TDI. Honest, fair, and thorough.

One more compliment on this man. I am fixing up a Beetle tdi for my 16 year old, and he has been nothing but great help. Now I am going to find a TDI for myself, knowing I have the man to fix it right around the corner.

Ditto on all the positives...

And to those that have had trouble getting a response... In this case a busy mechanic is a good mechanic... There is a correlation!

I just had Daniel install his first 2MicronTech Pure Flow, Contain Flow, and IC Drain!
... He was great to talk to and did great work. I got the recommendation here and figured I should pass it along...

Another vouch for Dan. He has been working on my BEW for years now. Very reliable, solid work.
It may take a number of weeks to get in touch during the busy season, but he will get to you.

Indeed! We've been back to see Daniel a couple more times, for service and some other work (going in next week to install frostheater... yes I am lazy :p)... I've been pleased each time and found it to be worth the efforts, on my end, to get in touch! If too much work presents itself, I bet you'd pick the persistent TDIers too, we're more serious about getting quality work done so we can stack some miles on! :)

Great to hear such positive things and to have a great TDI mechanic local for once (not that it'll stop me from doing a lot of stuff myself). We'll be Asheville bound in two weeks.

Rebuilt 2004 1.9 GSL TDI I4 Auto - I hope I wrote this correct
I just got my 2004 back from Appalachian Diesel Works today. All I have to say is Daniel was amazing. He went through everything what he did to my jetta. He changed my BEW Timing belt kit added .75 OEM collant ( I did not even ask him to do that) and did an oil change. I just recently bought the Jetta and he went through it with a fine tooth and fixed a few things for Free. Oh yeah, he was sick as a dog and asking his children was sick today and still find time to fix my Jetta. I will not go to anyone else but Daniel. He is a Honorable man. I am taking it back in a couple of weeks to get a few more items replaced because of the miles and year of the Jetta. Thank you TDIclub.com for the recommendation.

Daniel is top notch. Sadly, Landon lost his life in an accident last week. He will be greatly missed. A loss for us all.

Daniel does all the work on my three TDI's and is a great diesel mechanic and person. Hopefully I will sell the 2004 sedan soon. He will be doing my 120k when it comes around on my 2013 Passat along with mods.

Maybe I should go ask him if he wants help when I get back from my road trip this summer.
I really appreciate Daniel! He's honest and good!

There is no one else, other than myself, I will trust with my car!

He's definitely swamped and as said before works alone these days. He's helped me multiple times and I never expect immediate response.

Remember, not only is he in demand by his customers, he has a beautiful little boy and wife!
