Hello everybody,

Please help me regarding this issue of mine:
I am about to change engine oil, and a friend of mine suggested to me SHELL Helix 10W-40 oil type.

My car has passed 250.000 km, it's a diesel one (1.9 TDI, 6speed-gearbox)

The last time I changed engine oil, I used Castrol 10w-40

Pls advice ,
regards

I'd recommend a 5W40 oil for your car.
I'm not sure which engine you have:
If it is a VE pump then use at least VW505.00. If it is a PD then use VW505.01 specification.

good luck!

What does VW recommend? It should be in the owner's manual. I would stick with VW's recommendation for YOUR car. I could tell you want is recommended for my car but that may not be what is best for YOUR car.

I'm sure your car has the ALH engine like my 03 jetta has. I always check the oil ratings for the vw 505.01. If it there, then I'd say your good but I'd stick with the 5/40 weight though. I have seen that shell oil brought up on discussion many times so it must be good stuff!
