I cannot for the life of me find this information. When I go to tire websites to purchase it will only list one tire size 225/45R17. I wanted to look at downsizing to 16" rim size. Every tire website will only list 17" but when I go to a few tire size websites it lists 205/55R16 as a size but just for 2014 TDI jetta. It does not mention Highline.

Going down to 16" I know is better in terms of handling etc. I did the same for my other vehicle. The main reason is the cost difference is significant. When I called a tire place they said some conflicting information.

I have read some posts about people with regular TDI's getting 16's or 15's but i'm unsure why the highline does not show 16" rim sizes on all manufacture websites for tires.

The highline is simply a trim..if you have a 16" rim for a mk6 Jettas. It will be 205/55/16

Your front brakes define the smallest diameter wheels that go on the car. Since the Jetta sedan only has 288mm brakes, that means 15" wheels, just like the poverty spec Jetta S 2.slow.

JSW or Jetta?

JSW for 09-14 had larger 312 rotors, no? 16" should be minimum.

But then again that just me guessing he has a JSW as this is the JSW/Golf folder, not the A6 Jetta sedan folder.

i have 205/55/16 General Altimax Artic on Sparco Teraa 16x7 +48 wheels. They are definitely larger than 205, as I rub my fender liner on certain bumps AND this is with that fender liner screw removed too. However, I don't know if I would go down to a 195.

That tire size is fine for your car. The rubbing may be caused by incorrect wheel offset.

Correct, that is the OEM size. I run 205/55/16 for both summers and winters. Great tire size that is very popular so you have tons of tire options.

I dropped down a size to 15" wheels on my MK4, but can't do that with the JSW.

My summer tire / wheel setup are Advan RS 17x8 +47, and I have 245/45 Sumitomo tires on there. Sumitomo 245 widths definitely seem a bit narrower than General Winter tire 205 width sizing. I can't imagine 1 mm offset difference causing my tires to rub the liners.

Why not? What size is your spare tire?

'09-14 Jetta Sportwagens have 312mm front brakes. 15" wheels won't fit. They'll fit on sedans and Golfs.
