Intermittant immobilizer light flashing

Gentlefolk;
'02 NB, 5 sp 205K miles, stock (no chipping or bypass)
I have been getting an intermittant immo light flashing upon POST. When I take out the key and reinsert it, the immo flash goes away. This is happening maybe every fifth time I use the car?
Am I on a downward spiral of immo failure or is my fob flaking?
No Vag-Com has been done yet.

What's POST?

I'd say it is the FOB..........just guessing, maybe the battery! Do you have more than one key? If so, try the others!

POST - Power On Self Test

Sadly, down to just the one fob now...the other fob got lost and my valet key has disappeared.

Need to replace those lost keys, but at dealer rates, I have been delaying too long....

Vag-tacho...at least you will save the 45-90 dollar dealer fee for programming.
