Crossed Terminals?

2012 Passat SE NMS
I crossed the battery terminal clamps after the DSG service. Major Brain Fart! I placed the battery in the wrong way. I’m going to be replacing the voltage regulator, but not sure if it’s the only thing I’ll be replacing. The complete VCDC Scan is below. Any suggestions where I should begin first?

have you tried running it? I did the same thing on my civic (new optima battery had reversed posts- found out what a group 51R means the hard way) lucky for me it didn't hurt a thing.

I believe you have no choice but to start the car (if it will start) and begin to put the codes to bed. Some may clear, some may need to be cleared, and some may remain and indicate damage to the modules they monitor.

While I can't guarantee anything, this may be an insurance matter. Damage was unintentional and not collision related. Comprehensive coverage may come into play.

As to damage it's always a crap shoot. Sometimes nothing. Other times only very minor problems. And then times when "Murphy" visits just about every component in the vehicle. Let's hope the majority of codes will clear and that damage will only be minor in nature.

2x. Clear all the faults, and see what comes back.

From a quick glance it looks like you might have blown up the steering rack and steering column computers. Those might just be fuses though. How big was the spark when you hooked it up wrong?

Check all your fuse, replace the blown ones, and wipe all the codes. Drive the car and see which come back. Might want to wipe the codes once after driving to get a total reset. I would remove the cables and touch them together to discharge all computers after the first drive if there are codes still showing.

Then you can chase the ones that remain.

Check the big fuse for the alternator.

btw some sparks are normal when connecting a battery the correct way.

Looks like a lot of the faults are temporary.

Try and fire it up.

First, I'd like to thank everyone for their response. It's truly appreciated. Thank you. After charging the battery 14.2V, I was able to start her up. I cleared all the fault codes and took her for a spin for about 20 mins on the backroads and then the highway to open her up. I reached 80 mph without issue. The ERROR ESP was still active on the display. I pulled her back into the barn and ran a new VCDC Scan while she was running.

Here's what I noticed from the test drive:
1. Power Steering is out. Reminded me of a Subaru Wagon I once owned in my 20s.
2. Alternator doesn't provide a charge. Confirmed with voltmeter after test drive 12.3V.
3. Suspect ABS is also out. Different feel when depressing break peddle.

My next step is to replace some of the fuses; however, I'm not sure which fuses to replace. The dealer is absolutely no help and I can't find anything online. Most are photo copies from a manual which doesn't match. Specifically, I'm concerned with any fuse associated with the:
1. Alternator
2. Power Steering Control Module (J500)
2. Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
3. Control Module for Tire Pressure Monitoring (J502)

I'm not as concerned with ABS system just yet. That's another project for another day. I'm mostly concerned with the alternator. The regulator replacement shouldn't be too much of pain, but I could be wrong??? Looks like I'll need to move a bracket containing a couple of hoses from the radiator out of my way and the interior wheel cover (couple of screws). Then the A/C compressor followed by the tensioner pulley mechanism to finally get to the alternator.

The regulators is on back order with no guaranteed ship date. I checked with the dealer to see what they'd charge. They want $1095, not including parts, to pull the alternator and check it over. I'd rather check the fuses first to see if that's the problem (fingers crossed).
