The boost curve shape is just as I had expected per the above hp graph. It's great to see the numbers though. Thanks.

Awesome! did you get the turbo inlet pipe with it too or are you fabbing one up for it?

I fitted a CR 170 turbo to my Euro CR 140 Passat ( same engine and injectors as the GTD minus the turbo). It was a straight swap.

The CR 170 turbo is surprisling a good unit, great bang for buck. Comparing my heavy Passat against my lighter old MKIV PD130 Golf van with a Turbodynamics stage 2 hybrid turbo the Passat i feel is quicker overall.

Off the line the Golf will get ahead but top end speeds the Passat will reel it in and probably overtake. Good turbo!

Jon,

In my research for this turbo I've found that the 3C0 129 635 is included as part of the 3C0 129 654P when bought new. Did you buy those parts used?

Thanks!

I was just listing part numbers, yeah I got all my parts second hand. I paid less than $400 shipped for everything. Thanks for the info!

Jon.

Is the turbo running out of flow up top or are EMP's getting high requiring you to reduce boost?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but what would this turbo relate to in terms of things that would fit an ALH for instance i.e. GT1749VB? Or bigger?

Cheers

great to hear! FYI for those looking for an upgrade and still keep oem like emissions you should be able to use the 2005-2007 EGR cooler and pipes to fit up to this for the high pressure EGR side. You will then need to make a pipe piece ` 3" long, 3/4"D with a 10mm 1.5 corse thread nut welded to the side and a clearance hole through it. You will then take the LP egr cooler assembly temp sensor and put this in it and connect the coolant lines up to the system. You still need to figure out how to handle the servo and feedback for the lp egr setup.
Is there any more information on this? Im looking to do this upgrade and keep stock emissions. Fabricating the "pipe" seems a little out of my league too.

I wonder if the EGR's are deleted but the DPF and full exhaust is retained, will the car still pass emissions? I would think so.

In my state (MA) it would. You are allowed 1 readiness monitor to be "not ready" and still get a sticker.

* :D * I decided its time to do the turbo swap myself. * :D *

Turbo - I chose to go brand new instead of used for the peace of mind. Peter at IDparts was a big help and was able to find them new for me.

I found both turbo pieces I will need for this swap on eBay:
3C0 129 654 P (turbo inlet pipe) on ebay.UK $24.84 + $20.72 shipping from the united kingdom.

3C0 129 635 (turbo inlet elbow) on ebay.com $37.99 free shipping (in the US).

A friend works @ a machine shop so he is going to make me the Exhaust Temp Sensor spacer out of stainless or Inconel (I guess they make exhaust valves out of it, never heard of it before).

A big thanks to JFettig for all the information & part numbers for this swap - I promise to stop asking you so many questions! :D

Good to hear Jay, make that spacer of of 300 series ss, you'll want it to have a little crush, no need to use inconel - insane material for something as simple as this.

Inconel is crazy expensive and hard to machine...
He was making it out of scrap metal at work, I will ask him to use the stainless. I had never heard of inconel before, he suggested it as how resistant it is to heat I guess.
