Default The definitive "How to calculate your buyback"

Here's how to calculate your VW buy back and fix options (I'll use mine as an example):

BUY BACK

NOTE: The number you end up with through this process is your final restitution number. There is no other compensation on top of this number. It is considered to be your car's FMV as of Sept, 2015 plus a compensation amount included, which is why it is so much higher than your car's actual FMV in Sept, 2014.

If you have owned your vehicle since Sept. 18, 2015:
Reference tables in Attachment 1A: Buyback and Approved Emissions Modifications Restitution
https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/fi...tion_table.pdf
Find your vehicle in the table according to Model, Year, and your location (https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/fi...egion_list.pdf)
Now start with the number under “Buy Back” (Column 1)

Sample:

Buy Back amount from table (Attachment 1-A)

2013 Jetta (Midwest) $21,647

Make adjustments to this number according to the options you have by using the numbers in Column 1 under "Options" from Attachment 1-A

No power tran; - 870
Power Seat; + 330
Fender Stereo; + 440
Power Sunroof; + 660
$22,207

Now you will need to adjust this number for the mileage on your vehicle using the table in Attachment 2A-2C
Start with your current mileage.

My Current Mileage = 108k

Now adjust for your mileage back to September, 2015 by multiplying the number of months since Sept., 2015 to the date of buyout. I will use today as an example, so 10 months.

1,042 x 10 = 10,420

Subtract that from your current mileage.

108,000-10,420 = 97,580 adjusted miles

Look up the amount in the table in Attachment 2A-2C under the column "buyback" corresponding to your model, year, and the adjusted mileage figure from above. The number may be a positive number (if you have very low miles), zero, or a negative number (for higher mileage vehicles).

97,580 miles adj =
- $3,990

Adjust your buy back number by adding the mileage adjustment to your previous buy back number.
Final Buyback offer from VW = 22,207+(-3,990)=

$18,217

IF YOUR MILEAGE ADJUSTMENT IS A NEGATIVE NUMBER (HIGH MILEAGE), YOUR BUY BACK IS REDUCED BY THAT MUCH. A POSITIVE NUMBER (LOW MILEAGE) INCREASES YOUR BUY BACK.

I don't think it is possible, but if your buy back were to be less than $5,100, you would receive a minimum payment of $5,100.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIX OPTION (MODIFICATION)

If you have owned your vehicle since Sept. 18, 2015:
Reference tables in Attachment 1A: Buyback and Approved Emissions Modifications Restitution
https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/fi...tion_table.pdf
Find your vehicle in the table according to Model, Year, and your location (https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/fi...egion_list.pdf)
Now start with the number under “Modification” (Column 2)

Sample:
Amount from table (Attachment 1-A)
2013 Jetta (Midwest) $6,097

Make adjustments to this number according to the options you have by using the numbers in Column 2 under "Options" from Attachment 1-A

No power trans - 145
Power Seat + 70
Fender Stereo + 110
Power Sunroof + 120
$6,252

Now you will need to adjust this number for the mileage on your vehicle using the table in Attachment 2A-2C
Start with your current mileage.

My Current Mileage = 108k

Now adjust for your mileage back to September, 2015 by multiplying the number of months since Sept., 2015 to the date of buyout. I will use today as an example, so 10 months.

1,042 x 10 = 10,420

Subtract that from your current mileage.

108,000-10,420 = 97,580 adjusted miles

Look up the amount in the table in Attachment 2A-2C under the column "Mod Adjustment" corresponding to your model, year, and the adjusted mileage figure from above. The number may be a positive number (if you have very low miles), zero, or a negative number (for higher mileage vehicles).

97,580 miles adj =
- $665

Adjust your Modification Restitution number by adding the mileage adjustment to your previous number.

Final Modification Restitution offer from VW = 6,252+(-665)=
$5,587

IF YOUR MILEAGE ADJUSTMENT IS A NEGATIVE NUMBER (HIGH MILEAGE), YOUR AMOUNT IS REDUCED BY THAT MUCH. A POSITIVE NUMBER (LOW MILEAGE) INCREASES YOUR PAYMENT.

IF YOUR NUMBER IS LESS THAN $5,100, YOU WOULD GET THE MINIMUM OF $5,100.
