Car died while driving and wouldn't restart, luckily near my house.

1) Engine cranks but no start.
2) No glow plug light (tried couple or relay 109, no good)
3) Wipers work okay
4) No turn signals
5) No power windows

Thinking ignition switch burned out but also wanted to put this out there to see if other relays or fuses should be checked so i can pick those up too, just in case.

Was this a sudden failure?

All those systems at once?

If so, I would buy an ignition switch; they are cheap enough, and common enough of a failure that if this test doesn't work, you can keep it in your parts bin for the impending failure! ;)

  1. Remove the steering column covers
  2. Unplug the original switch
  3. Plug in the replacement switch
  4. Using an appropriate sized straight blade screwdriver, turn the switch as you would with the key.
  5. If the accessories work, the switch needs to be replaced.
    1. There is a stick for ignition switch replacement at the top of the A3/B4 section
If each of the systems failed one at a time, over time, I would chase the fuses and relays.

I would wager that the ignition switch is the culprit.

Got it going again. Was the ignition switch. All systems back up and running. This switch was only in service for about 6 months.
