mk3 golf tdi won,t start no fuel at the pump

hi just got an n reg mk3 golf tdi the car turns over but won,t fire theres no fuel coming to the injectors i suspect the injector pump may be no good is there a lift pump in the tank or is there any other ways of checking before changing the pump? any help would be much appreciated

Did you verify if the fuel shut-off solenoid on the IP is working? Could be as simple as a bad wire or failed relay.

As mech644 said, check the relay.

Also, verify that the starter is spinning quickly enough to turn the engine to a sufficient RPM to even begin injecting fuel (the crank position sensor does this). I've seen a weak battery result in a too-slow starter speed.
