Hello! I'm looking for a replacement turbo for a Land Rover 300tdi engine. 2,5 liter 4-cylinder, 11mm distributor pump, nozzles are ,260. Some new vnt would be nice but no electronic engine control so i guess that rules it out. Would like to get more torque down low, originally it makes 200lbft@1800rpm. Original turbo is jurassic garrett t250-04, compressor exducer 53mm and turbine inducer 47. Car will seldom see more than 3500 rpm. Any thoughts? Holset he211w maybe? I know this car is not a vag but there is so much knowledge here.

Would the he211w be better a better choice as it has 56mm compressor vs 60mm for he221w. Also the 211 has #5 turbine housing as the 221 comes with #7 housing? What about he200w?

there are multiple size housings available. my HE221 has a 6cm housing and username "nitec" I think sells them with a 5.5cm

There is a very rare OE Garrett VNT which is simply pressure controlled, they where made for LandRover Aftermarket Turbo Kit.

Sizewize it is about GT2556V size, so "relative" big thing.

I have a broken one in my workshop from which I can tell you the part number on monday if from any interest.

As alternative choice there also is a pressure controlled Garrett VNT from some early Alfa Romeo engine....

Garrett 454150-5006S

A pressure controlled vnt might also work but wouldn't there be a problem with toi much boost on low throttle, for example cruising on highway. I know that some have built systems where the vanes are default open. Throttle cable closes the vanes via a spring mechanism when pedal is pushed. When required boost pressure is achieved pressure actuated mechanism opens the vanes. These systems might work but there must be quite a lot of adjusting and tuning involved. There are also aftermarket digital vnt controllers for example digibooster. Didn't find any user comments about that however.

You set up so the lever does not close the vanes so far, crank in stop screw until you get good EMP/IMP at cruise, then have a normal pressure actuator for opening the vanes.
Not quite as good of spool as computer control, as they can clamp down much further without running into restriction at low EGT.

Just do "dumb" wastegate turbo. I'd look for something S200-ish in size. 51mm inducer.
