RNS MP3 question

Is the CD player in a 2015 SEL MP3 compatible?
(I'm not talking about the SD slot, just the CD player)

I guess you figure for those of us (like me) who understand this terminology, no further explanation is necessary. For our '13 Passat SEL, the answer is no; I would have no idea about the RNS-510 in the 2015.

Thanks. I had heard that the Passat CD players were MP3 compatible, but your experience is otherwise. My 2009 Subaru has it and I have a lot of CDs packed with MP3s. Of course, I can always use SD cards.

That is what I do; I made it a bit more convenient by copying the MP3s to the 18GB of free space on the HD. The SD card I'm using is a 4GB, I don't know what the volume size limit is that the RNS-510 can handle.

I can't recall for certain, but I am running either a 16GB or 32GB SD with no issues . . . (too lazy to go out and look . . .).

I recorded a MP3 from Amazon on a CD and it worked fine (15 SEL)

2015 Passat will play MP3 CD's and MP3 SD cards.

Have yet to figure out how to copy to HDD though.

For our 2013 Passat, the instructions were right there in the RNS-510 manual, and actually not that hard to do. Of course, I think that things have changed somewhat by 2015, I'm pretty your car has a SSHD, where ours is the regular mechanical "real disc" HDD. So who knows.

We have both 2013 and 2015, with RNS510 in both. From a use/interface standpoint, I have yet to find a difference. Yeah, the 2015 is SSD, but that is unrelated to what content it can take - it's just a storage device, and 'bits are bits' as far as it is concerned. I don't think I have ever seen release notes/changes for the recent FW, and that would be the only way to know for certain . . . but then again MP3 data is MP3 data, no matter what it is stored on . . .

After the initial euphoria when I bought the car and read the manual from cover to cover it has been put away.
