The red light on the key fob flashes after I replace its battery (the remote functions died, the key still works). Does this mean the fob needs replacing?

Thanks,
Ray

In section 3-1, page 29 of my owner's manual there is a paragraph about resetting the key. To reset the code, Press button A or button C one time for one second. The vehicle remains locked. The control unit recognizes only one key code via the master key.
Step 2: Lock or unlock the vehicle with the master key.
The resetting procedure is now complete.
A is the bottom button to unlock and C is the top to lock.
Then there is another section for manually programming the remote control, but I think that is if you choose to add a third remote.

Good post JB05. My wife's key fob failed today. Instructions were on page 31 of my manual.

Anyone had success with the instructions on the manual?
I replaced the battery of my only Master key and the red light keeps flashing.
I followed the instructions on page 31 to no avail.
Everytime I try to use the remote, not only it does not open the car, but the alarm goes off and I have to lock and unlock with the key for the alarm to stop.

I am really trying to avoid the dealer for something like this.

Nothing works. I emailed VWOA and I received a prompt and courteous reply. However, the step-by-step instructions just will not work. The final word from VWOA was to bring it to the dealer for a reflash. Don't know why they bother putting instructions in their user manual when they know it just doesn't work.:(
