Hello Guys,

My 2012 Tourareg TDI has sprung an oil leak form the turbo. I hear this is a major operation to repair and requires the engine to be pulled ?

Can anyone confirm is this is the case and recommend a mechanic in Oakville\Burlington to repair ?

Thanks
Colin

Believe it or not, both....

Turbo is ingesting oil and the feed line is leaking also, mechanic is telling me he has to pull the engine to repair.

If the external leak can be fixed without pulling the engine, you should probably start there and then monitor the oil level closely to see if it's still dropping. Did your mechanic say how they determined that the turbo was leaking internally? If the turbo is failing then you need to address that before it grenades, but if that's the case then you should have been told that there was excessive oil in your intake, excessive shaft play in the turbo, or something along those lines. The problem is that many 'mechanics' pretend they know what they are doing when they are guessing, and unless you are confident that this person knows what they are talking about then I'd be hesitant to have the engine pulled. You could try messaging BuzzKen on this forum, his shop is in Markham but it'd be worth the drive to know for sure. Lots of people recommend Precision Tuning in Concord as well.

Perjad at precision is good people. Knows his stuff.

To my knowledge, the only way to address the turbos on the TREG is to pull the engine.

Yuck.

There are just too many to list....
The labor to R&R the turbo on a 2012 T'reg CATA 3.0L TDI V6 engine is 3.4hr and you most certainly do NOT have to drop the engine.

For comparison, the labor time for a turbo on a 2012 Jetta sedan CJAA engine is a whopping 9 hr.

I would add Total Mechanical Services just outside Orangeville as another highly recommended VW/Audi specialist.

VW has revised the turbo oil feed and crush washers on the 3.0L a couple times. I'd replace the line and crush washers and drive it. If the turbo needed to be replaced, it wouldn't be drivable. MEHcanic probably pulled a CAC pipe off and saw the normal oily residue from the crank case vent and thought its from the turbo.
