This one has been asked before but could someone confirm the part number of the 11mm IP.....I've it noted down as 038 130 107J. I have been offered one for £200 and if its correct I will be collecting tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see how the 11mm IP performs with a 12mm pump head but won't you rpm be restricted?

Anyway I checked out the pump today but the rotor won't turn by hand so I'm concerned the pump is a duffer......how much pressure should it take to turn it or have I missed something:confused:

They're pretty tough to turn by hand but... put a 22mm wrench on the nut and it should turn without much trouble. It turns similar to an engine w/compression as the pressure will build up (x4 per rev) then peak and release.

nearly 6k with a 12mm, Ruben has a 12mm pump too, Bio Diesel or 2 stroke/diesel mix will keep it alive

The pumps are all a twat to turn!!

Are there any how to's on the setting up of the pump i.e. timing it in?

I think you just pin it up and then check out in VAG-COM once warm and adjust it within spec but i've never done it!!

For the ALH, it's basically like half a timng belt job. To get the pump off you need to bring the crank to TDC, pull the vacuum pump, lock the cam, loosen the TB tensioner, crack the cam pulley loose, remove IP pulley, unhook and remove IP pump. The setting up means re-install new pump, swap IP pulley onto new pump, re-hook up HP lines, harness and fuel connections, re-time as you would a belt job. Other than the hardware swap, you retime as spelled out in Drivbywire's instructions available here. You'll need the TB tools to lock the cam, pin the IP, counter-hold the cam pulley and tighten/loosen the TB tensioner. If doing it for the first time, it helps to have a mentor at hand. Good luck and enjoy your new pump... :D

Does anyone have a chart on how read the p/n's on bosch ve pumps? More specifically, what numbr's denote head size. I remember reading it somewhere but I can't find it for the life of me. Specifically a number like 0-460-494-213. Is the "0XX" number inside of the circle head size?

Thanks as usual :)!

IRC, the center digit denotes the pump head size. In the case of your example part number it's a 9. If it were a 0 then it'd be a 10mm pump, 1 would be an 11mm pump, and 2 would be a 12mm pump.

Anyone any idea what the max mg/stroke output of an 11mm pump and R520s should be? Also if the quantity of fuelling is know what is the max. potential power output if a 2260v where to be used for example......not forgetting that uprated rods and lower CR will be required?

I had 54mg with original 11mm pump and original nozzles. 74mg with 11mm pump and R520(5). 99mg with 12mm head and R520(5) which gave me ~350bhp (20,5:1 CR, original rods) on my 2.5TDI. Next target is 120mg, but this time pump will hopefully deliver it up to 6000+rpm.

Shadow I suppose then the 11mm with R520s should be able to supply enough fuel to make 280 to 300 with the right supporting mods.

Anyway whilst stripping the car to do the TB change and fit the 11mm I noticed wear on the cam and followers....so work has stopped for now:mad: .

So now I am on the look out for an uprated cam.....any suggestions? I have heard mixed reports about the Dbilas 260 cam, which appears to run with the standard spring rates?

When/ why upgrade to an 11mm pump? I have one in a box. I have 2R520 injectors, and when I asked about upgrading to the 11mm, I was told that I would smoke worse. I was thinking that the 10mm pump on such large injectors were causing pressure to drop on injection and cause smoke. I know 2R520s smoke inherently, especially under throttle. Mine is clean while cruising. Do you guys think I should toss on the bigger pump? Can't it be remapped to bring the smoke back down to 10mm level? Anybody have some big 5hole nozzles for sale?

Only 117k miles. I have since pulled the sump and its totally spotless and so is the cam cover area.....no sludge at all. The oil in the car has been changed every 5/6k miles since I first bought it nearly 8 years with 5k miles on it. The only issue I can think that may have caused this is that the car gets driven hard all the time and quite a lot from cold. So I'm at a loss to understand the wear on the cam and marking on the followers?

As you know i had the Dbilas 260 cam fitted just before i sold my car and there were no issues whats so ever although if i were you i would use the older double spring setup and not the uprated units like some have done.

One mod that was carried out to the head was that the follower bosses were milled deeper to allow for a cam which had even more lift than the dbilas cam by 1.25mm or so , that could be the reason why no problems were had.

Mojo I had hoped that the cam would fit using the standard type followers, as I don't want to do any head work at this stage as I need to get the car back on the road. Its all been a bit unlucky as the impreza's engine is stripped awaiting an uprated turbo and the A4 1.8T is stripped as I am currently cleaning the underside and prepping it for painting. So if the cam would fit straight in without to much work it would suit better at this time.

I'm looking some help to understand best approach, as I intend to order the camshaft tomorrow but I need some technical input to understand if the standard followers are up to the job??????
