Going to work this morning I decided to take our my BlackBerry and show what the TDI can do at Max Speed. This car is very stable and can cruise all day at these speeds.
Of course you mileage will not be great but it sure is fun and legal..

PS. I’ve had my Corvette at 170 mph, that’s scary..:eek::eek:

22mpg at 120, hah, that seems pretty decent compared to some cars here at 60

Looked like it topped out at 110mph. Wonder if the 6MT would do the same. Cool, thanks for the vid!

Great video! Looks like 22 - 24 MPG @ top speed. Not bad at all considering some cars can't do that good at any speed, let alone top speed. :D

Great Video; one would have the car tuned and remove the governer to see faster speeds.(really no reason to do that)

The new passat is a gorgeous beast but I'd expect more from it than that, I can do 120 with my ALH no bother but maybe not as smooth though lol and definitely with different music :D

Keep in mind that's the American speed limiter, not the European speed limiter. :p

Of course. A simple tune can change it to whatever you want.

A few years back, I had a chance to drive the autobahn while visiting some of my wife's relatives in Eastern Holland. I was driving a rental Citroen Picasso with a 2.0L diesel. I had 7 people in the car and it was packed full of luggage. I had it up to 190 kph (119 mph) many times.

Great Road System :)

The BMW's and Audi's passed me like I was standing still.

I would think that you could get a lot more out the TDI.

It certainly has enough power to go faster.

22mpg at 110mph is 5gph. A rule of thumb with diesels is 20hp per gph. So at 110 the engine is making about 100hp, well below its max. So it looks like an active speed limiter.

It's definitely an active speed limiter. The car reduces power when it hits 110 mph, which can be seen when the MPG goes from 16 to 22 when it stops accelerating.

Nice video. Hearing the car is smooth and stable is what really counts. Speed limiter helps keep folks honest (sort of).

170 in a vet is serious speed. I've crossed into the 160's a few times when I had my R1. No speed to be messing around or not paying attention.

Euro HIDs WILL NOT fit on a North American Passat.

Thanks for the info. I knew I needed a TDI when four of us rented a Seat something-or-other (Basically a Passat) wagon for a trip to Prague. We drove 105 mph almost the whole way there and averaged right at 30 MPG.
