I have almost 140k miles on my Golf with little problem. But, recently I have noticed that when the steering wheel is even a few degrees right of center; it makes a groaning sound. Anyone have any idea of what that could be and what it would take to fix?

Probably PS fluid - you must use Pentosin CHF 11S.

If you don't have the special tool to remove the cap, use a large pliers around the edge of the cap. Check the level while it's running. Keep it clean.

If you're low on PS fluid, then you should check for leaks, probably behind the inner tie rod ends at the rack.

To remove the cap, just lay down a small screwdriver in the cap slot.

Hey, thanks guys, you were right. I checked the PS reservoir, and saw that it was all but empty. I’m going to look for the Pentosin CHF 11S PS Fluid at the parts stores here in town, are there any other highly recommended brands, or ratings I should be looking for? My knee-jerk reaction was to assume that it was a wheel bearing, or some other high-dollar fix. If this is the cure, you guys saved me a lot of aggravation and expense. :)
