CEL clicked on a few days back and I just got around to scanning it and got the following:

Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-016-BEW.lbl
Control Module Part Number: 038 997 016 R HW: 028 101 114 6

Software Coding: 0150031
Work Shop Code: WSC 66565 257 00032

P3007 - 000 - No Signal - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 2415 /min
Torque: 44.0 Nm
Speed: 40.0 km/h
Load: 15.7 %
Voltage: 14.21 V
Bin. Bits: 00101000
Idle Stabilization: 0.0袁W
(no units): 48.0

00150 - Plausibility Brake Booster System
000 - - - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 1911 /min
Torque: 106.0 Nm
Speed: 15.0 km/h
Load: 34.5 %
Voltage: 14.52 V
Bin. Bits: 00101000
Temperature: 3.6蚓
Bin. Bits: 10110000

A few observations:
The car has been the occasional longish cranker since I have owned it.[3 years]
Maybe a 3 -5 second crank although it also has fired right off at times. I have not worried about this as it always starts and settles into its 903 rpm idle.
Since the CEL came on, it cranks and starts the same but now the idle is over 1000.
I just did a read up on the CPS and have to begin diagnostics but I wanted to get some feedback from the forum before diving in.
Looks like the CPS is in a tight spot and I know I don't want to drop it into the timing cover if it needs replacing
As for the 00150 - Plausibility Brake Booster System, I read the Rosstech wiki but it has minimal info so once again again info is welcome.

The cam sensor is not that difficult, but do position some rags and be careful. I have replaced 2 (the first one was a cheapy, then I replaced that one with a genuine VW). Consider getting the rubber plug, as the original will be old and most likely crumble.

UPDATE beta

I cleared the codes yesterday and the car sat all night.
I went out this morning and started it up [a quick start today] and drove to town and no CEL reappeared:confused:
So, could this just have been an anomaly or a result of cold, slushy weather?
Or is it a ticking time bomb that will get me eventually:eek:

My guess is the attached cable to the sensor is subject to a lot of heat, making it very fragile, so the tiny wires inside can possibly crack. I had to change the crank shaft position sensor for this reason; causing intermittent no-starts and stalling. I had moved it out of the way to change my t-stat recently. I may change the cam sensor just in case, but it has not been a problem so far.

Update 2

Rescanned it after clearing the codes and restarting it and the 19463 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) code reappeared.
My question is, does the CPS fail gradually and will the car continue to start and run normally as it fails or does the sensor just stop functioning and as such the car won't start or run.
Once the Honda is out of my shop[ran over nail and had to plug a tire], the VW goes in and I can warm and dry it out before staring diagnostics.

Fixed

New CPS did the trick.
Of course the rubber plug was hard and brittle and I cracked an edge off it and then dropped it downwards towards the belly pan. I ordered a replacement.
Checking torsion in field 004:
before replacement was 0
after replacement it was +2.5.
I don't know what it should be, but at least now it is reading.
I cleared the code, drove it and no codes popped back up.
It also seems to start faster, maybe 3 or 4 cranks where before it might be 5 or 6
or more.
