On my way home from work this evening my check engine light on my 98 Jetta TDI came on. Having reciently moved to NH I have yet to find a good mechanic. Any suggestions as to where I should go or what I should do?

There are a lot of club members in NH and MA with Vag Com.
Send a PM to PeterV, he lives in southern NH.
He will be able to scan the code and recomend a course of action.

There is also a GTG in RI this comming weekend.

As I have no idea what is going on, I do not feel comfortable driving the car to RI, but attending the GTG I am sure would teach me a lot.

raw, what city do you work in? perhaps somebody could help you out during lunch hour.

Also, you need to learn about Herm_TDi...one of New England's 7 wonders!

take care.

I work in northern Manchester. And yes, I have heard of Herm in ME. Should their be big things that need to be done seeing him sounds like it would be worth the drive.

It is probably a glow Plug problem.
Does the car run OK??
Chance's are it runs fine I wouldn't worry too much!
There is also Mr Chill in the Boston area he is a great TDI Tech!

I'm not sure about the A3's, but on the A4's, as long as the CEL is not flashing, you can drive the car.

As has been pointed out: warning lights that are orange are less "dangerous" than ones that are red...

Just drive to the GetTogether or to Peter & Julie's...

Yuri.

just go to a auto parts store and they will scan it for free.

then come on here and tell us what it says. . . . . .

somebody will be able to point you in the right direction.

those lights go off for hundreds of reasons, check your oil and coolant, and if everything is in good order . drive on down to RI

see you there, I hope.

Welcome to Winter wonderland.

I 've driven my y2k twice for a week with CEL....bad temp sensor the first time, and a bad glow plug the second. Did not have the time, parts to change it.

Unless it is causing engine run problems (power lose, starting problems, etc)...you can drive it to where ever you want for a fix.

Herm isn't that far from you:)
