I'd turned off all tire sensors, where ever I found them including the one that sets up in the MFD, made no difference at all.

What flipping sensors did you turn off? its a "system" that you turn off via VCDS, can't be done via MFD.

I'll have to compare this to my scan readout and see if they are the same or not.

reading the coding of a module can't be done doing a "general scan" for faults, you keep showing us old codes that were stored, but the meat of the info is in the actual coding of the module. You have to go to the module, ABS module most likely, and read the long coding which is what tadawson provided.

I've been away for a few days.

OK, I've done this as per Ross-Tech some time ago, made no difference.

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Tire_Pressure_Monitoring

I'll print all of this out and see what develops and get at it this weekend:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01325

In the meantime since that darn light is on constantly, I took some black electrical tape stuck it to a dime and cut a round circle and taped it so the light cannot be seen for the time being.

tdawson = Was coding on the ABS controller ever verified? And again, did you ever verify coding?

I would if I knew exactly what it is I'm looking for and where.

but my wife's 2015 US SEL has this for the coding in the ABS controller:
Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 1K0-907-379-60EC1F.clb
Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 BS HW: 1K0 907 379 BS
Component: ESP MK60EC1 H46 0166
Revision: 00H46001
Coding: C54BC0F5492800FAA30B03EB92210042A1100012
Shop #: WSC 09003 957 00200
VCID: 04296A97875EB761CD-8050

On mine the numbers after Part No HW is 1K0-907-379-60EC1F.clb Sorry I just realized this one is identical 9/10/18
Coding Nr = C54BC0F5492A00FDA30E03E8921F0042A11C0012 This has a number if differences
So there is 1 number different which I did not notice before.
So are you suggesting I should change the numbers to the one from your wife's car?

tdawson = 01325 - but there is no such device by name or the "J502" As per your link to Ross-Tech "Control Module for Tire Pressure Monitoring (J502)"

===============================

740GLE = also you can just turn off TPMS all together, nobody needs those nannies anyways
I'm pretty sure I have, but tell me how and I'll re-check it again.

==============================

06bluebeetle tdi = When I start the car it flashes and shortly after it stays on solid.
This is the key statement, there is something wrong in the system, whether it is a failed wheel speed sensor or something else,
the light will not clear until you fix it.
If it were just a simple push the button and reset the pressure, it would not flash on initial start, it would come on, go out for a second, then come right back on.

So how do I check these sensors? With a multimeter test for a short?

================================

This is really frustrating !

If someone can tell me exactly what and where and how to do something, would you please simplify it for me and send me a PM. I have to be honest telling me to "check the coding etc" does not mean much to me since I have no idea what it applies to and where and what I'm looking for.

It's much like someone writing a users manual, the author knows exactly what he is trying to say but for the eventual reader it is not the same.

Tnx

Are you using VCDS? If so, open the ABS controller, and go into the long coding helper, and it will tell you what each of the coding digits/bits means (arrow left and right). And also, yet again I find myself needing to remind you that if this is the normal NMS Passat TPMS system *THERE ARE NO SENSORS!* The car uses the abs data to compare wheel speed, and if those had failed, you would have an abs warning as well. If you are using some other tool that does not help you to know what the coding means, that makes things a lot harder . . .

Having the TPMS light flash on start up and then stay solid is exactly how my 2010 acted when i swapped over to winter tires without sensors. The flashing is the "system" looking for wheel pressure sensors (valve stems).

For the '15 the only sensors you have the system needs to be reading is the ABS wheel speed sensors, if there was an issue with those sensors, you'd have crazy list of ABS related codes stored.

I'd say if you're a betting man, copy tdawson coding and see if it fixes your issue. The worse that can happen is it doesn't work and you can just copy back your original coding.

The other thing is looking at "long coding helper" for specific bits that are different than tdawsons coding.

bits 12, 16, 20, 24, 27, 28, 36.

We are just getting part of the rotten weather coming up from the south, so I'll check all this tomorrow. I'll copy it to hard copy and take it out to the car.

Tried to change the coding to your numbers but when I came to "DO IT"
A message popped up telling me that the code is out of range and was not accepted.

My coding is :C54BC0F5492A00FDA30E03E8921F0042A11C0012

What does the long coding helper tell you the various different bit mean?

The Passat is built in Tennessee, you would think the US SEL and Cdn Highline are the same, except speedo and odometer.

Not a heck of a lot to see in Bytes, chose whether car is left hand drive, something like TPMS sensors installed and display added in the MFD.
That's about it 3 items.

Is you're VCDS all the way up todate?

I'm gonna have to dust of VCDS and plug it into our SEL and see what I see in the ABS controller.

Check if anything is checked in bite 14 of the ABS module, if it is, uncheck it and give that a whirl. This is a long shot but it's from the MK5 DIY about converting a direct system to an indirect system.

Also cleared any DTS codes. There are NO fault codes to be found in the ABS controller in today's read. There is one in module 09 Central electronics "status malfunction 0010 and also in 65 Tire pressure malfunction status malfunction 0010

To be honest I'm about to give up on this and will live with a small piece of BLACK electrical tape which is almost invisible hiding the tire sensor icon in the instrument panel.

Since you cleared all your codes and these came back I don't believe it is a coding issue and more a problem with the tire pressure warning system. I think your only solution will be to take it to the dealer and have them fix the TPS module.

My vehicle does not have the valve stem sensors:

I'm just going to leave the black electric tape over the instrument light so it's out of sight. If I feel like it I may take the car to a VW dealer in Manzanillo, Colima this winter to see if they can find anything, I live there for almost 6 months. It will be far less expensive at a Mexican VW dealer.

Sadly still havent broken out the VCDS.

I'd start poking around the 65 tire pressure controller, even though the ABS controler reads the sensor, the tire pressure controller may do the thinking or send the signal for the error light or something.

I don't think Thegrove implied you had well sensor, as there could be something wrong with the "controler" which is part of the "tire pressure system" as a whole.

I'd agree that other then spending more time with VCDS and taking swings at stuff, a trip to a dealer or black electrical tape may be in your best bet.

Well I guess persistence does pay off !
Upon further searching I got into the

Can-Gateway module

In there I was able to uncheck
4C-Tire pressure
65-Tire pressure

From a long list of choices.

I also found some settings which I do not think applied to my vehicle which I also changed. Such as instead of a sedan it was a short deck transport. Some others like that as well. It also lists my Passat as a "PQ46" somewhere but I left that alone since I do not know if this is some code for the "NMS" in North America.

I found many threads on the internet, but none of them really offered a solution. So I just plugged along investigating modules with my Ross-Tech HEX-V2.

Thanks to all who tried to help with this.

So did that get it to work, or just jerry rig it to dead? Checking the xorrect system ought to work, since there are zero known hardware faults in your car . . . .

Only thing I can say is that after I had the Phase 2 done I had to ask Malone for a new Stage 2 tune file since the Stage 2 file I had saved to my FlashZilla before taking the car in to VW could not be entered again.

So to me it seems that in addition to the hardware swap they must have also diddled the ECU.

They did.

Phase 2 introduced a second NOx sensor. Obviously they would have to revise the software to utilize that second sensor. And since you cant use the same ECU part number with the new software, the ECU part number changed.

I'll bet it is the different part number that blocked the flashzilla from working.

yeah but ECU modifications shouldn't have anything to do with ABS controllers and TPMS, different beasts.

Jetta, did Malone charge you for the phase 2 compliant file?

Common to have other modules need a software update for compatibility issues. This isn't limited to VAG products.

I was replying directly to Jetta_Pilot as to why his flashzilla wouldn’t reload his flash after the Vw reflash was done.

So who then performed the update for compatibility?

You think the phase 2 fix modified something with the ABS and then it caused the stock phase 2 Malone coding to mess up the ABS module?

I have no idea, I was just stating that in some cases a manufacturer that has an update for a specific module, it will require another module to get an update for compatibility purposes. LOTS (most) manufacturers are like this. You find a couple DTCs, find a TSB that says this issue can be resolved with a software update, you go to check the software version and there is indeed a newer version available, you update that module, then the program says now you'll also need to update these other modules. Happens to me all the time. Ford, Toyota, ChryCo especially, GM... every time we replace one of the GM transmissions that has the TCM built in we need to load the software which 9 times out of 10 also means the ENGINE controller needs a new flash too.

The techs at the Volkswagen dealers connect the car to their system, the actual updating is done via the 'net. Not sure how it is now, but it used to be a pretty "hands off" affair at the local level, you didn't always really know exactly what was happening while OTIS was churning away .

You know what I just realized.....

I saved a scan from my car the day I bought it (I always do incase I need to revert to day 1 coding).

I can compare it with my most recent scan and see if anything changed in teh ABS module...

I will try to check this when I get home from work today.

No Malone did not, I just took a reading of the ECU and sent it in then shortly after received a new Stage 2 file which the ECU accepted without a hitch.

I don't think a system wide scan (for fault codes) will record all long coding of the modules, i could be wrong though, and the issue you had was with the long coding of modules.

It sure does.

Here's my latest scan. (I bolded the long coding in 09 for reference but changed nothing else)

Side note... It wasnt me having the issue. I was attempting to offer a solution. =^)
