After talking my Wife into getting a tdi jetta, we have had nothing but problems with it. Now I'm no tdi hater, had a 2010 golf i put 250k on then sold it back then bought my current car a 2015 tdi golf :D. Last Saturday the glow plug light flashed and car went into limp mode. We pulled over, shut the car off and turned it back on and it was normal. drove 30 miles home and then drove it all Sunday with no issues.

Then Monday it happened again. If we shut the car off it goes away upon restart. So I said screw it and dropped it off at the dealer. 6 hours later they called saying the fuel tested positive for petrol in it. I told them off as ive been the only one filling the car, with diesel, at the same station every time. They said ok and they were going to call vwoa to see if they'd cover it. we don't hear from them for 3 days and then they called my wife this last Friday saying they fixed it under warranty and it was ready to go. So naturally I called them and they told me they dug into it further and replaced the fuel rail and sensor.

So yesterday I go pick it up and drove it 100 miles with no issues. Then last night i go pick my wife up from work and while I'm waiting i ran an autoscan on it via vcds. The 2 P0087 low fuel pressure codes were gone from last Saturday and Monday but there was one from Thursday at 1:02 pm. At this time the car was still in control of the dealer. As we leave the wife's work, boom it does it again. Flashing glow plug, limp mode. Shut it off, back on, 30 miles home all good. ***. I scanned it, same low pressure code. Any ideas?? Bringing it back to the dealer tomorrow. Making them give me an alltrac for a loaner haha. Ive attached a pic of the work order and the auto scans below.

Take it back. The entire fuel system has to be replaced or cleaned. Fuel drained, clean the fuel tank, new fuel lines, fuel pumps, filter and housing, fuel rails, and injectors. If they fixed it under warranty and it’s still screwy with the same codes and symptoms, then they didn’t do it right. The post fix warranty (and CPO coverage if you bought it at VW) should cover everything.

Btw, that “sniffer” fuel test they use in house in BS. Get your own fuel sample and submit it to a lab.

A good extra bit of insurance is to keep copies of all your fuel receipts. I keep an Evernote log of them on my phone along with a spreadsheet for when I purchase fuel. That way, if it really is contaminated fuel, most fuel stations have some guarantee and may be liable for damage caused by contaminated fuel.

Good luck, and report back.

Will do. Thats what I was afraid of. At least its all covered. And yes it is a CPO, thats pisses me off even more. Should have been like brand new. Ive put 15k on my CPO golf mk7 since may with zero issues.

I picked up a 2013 CPO Sportwagen with 43K. The HPFP ate itself within a month. They tried the in house fuel test, and blamed fuel contamination, but I had all my receipts to back up my fuel purchases. They replaced everything and I was happy. The HPFP screen had some rust on it and was partially clogged. There were also metal shavings and rust in the HPFP inspection port.

Besides keeping receipts, I also add 2 oz of Stanadyne lubricity formula at each fill up. Makes me feel al little better. It is supposed to increase the lubricity and emulsify any water. It’s cheap insurance for peace of mind.

Wrong. His car restarts each time the code pops up so it's obviously not a catastrophically failed pump, which would require the repair you mentioned above. They threw a rail pressure regulator at it because it's either that or the metering valve that's causing the problem. The metering valve is not sold separate from the HPFP in the VW parts system so they replace the whole pump rather than pull three torx screws and slap a new metering valve on it. I've seen a handful of metering valve failures.

I had a fuel metering valve fail. More into in this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=437398

Fixing it is easy, finding the part is not so easy.

Have Fun!

Dealer called today. They got "special approval" from VW to replace the HPFP. Lol! Whatever, just get me my car back.
