Horrible idea. Ethanol has poor energy density per gallon, is not sustainable on a large scale, and takes away from out food supply.

The gas electric idea is a joke, efficiency of that system would be in the toilet.

IMHO we need to get away from trucks where we can and go back to rails.

Rails is the best option, we also need high speed take in the USA. This'll make it a lot more viable option for much more.
Of course, the USA is so far behind the rest of the world in sustainable energy, is rediculous!

Cellulosic ethanol has it's merit.

I've never been a fan of converting corn into ethanol.

The ONLY reason we have corn to ethanol is strictly political. For a time, automotive manufacturers only had to count the gasoline part of E-85 in their fleet MPG reports. It didn't matter that almost no FlexFuel vehicles would ever run on E-85 because gas station that had it were few and far between.

Also, farmers lobbied for subsidies to grow more corn. I can't find it know, but I thought I read that the total energy including growing, harvesting, transporting distilling, and delivering ethanol to the public is about the same amount of energy as you got out of it. Yup. A complete pork barrel political scam.

As long as people have the climate change fraud being pushed on them, a lot of really hare brained "fixes" for a problem that doesn't exist will be making the climate change hoaxsters rich. The latest wrinkle to the hoax is that we have 12 years to stop using fossil fuels or we will be well on our way to irreversibly and completely destroy the planet according to this imbecile: https://nowthisnews.com/videos/politics/aoc-calls-out-calling-solutions-to-climate-change-socialist

The original article was one sided against diesel. Only mentioned NOX Emissions. Not the emissions of gas. (CO2, PM, whatever else).

I agree with Ol'Rattler. Its a scam from the highest levels. Im all for clean environment. but for "scientists" to spout off arbitrary dates of when the earth is going to come to an end is uncalled for. They have 0 evidence. It is fear mongering to get scientists more funding and investors to get rich off everyone else.

The imbecile in the first link I posted, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a congresswoman that has absolutely zero credibility about anything she talks about and yet she is the new darling of the Democratic party. Really a horrific thing that the lunatic left supports her.
When asked why she thought President Trump should be impeached, she said that there are just to many reasons to list but could not give even one example.

I think VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are completely miss represented in the scheme of things. When VOC's are quoted for gasoline, the VOC's for refining, transporting and storage are completely ignored. If you look at the complete picture for VOC's, Diesel total emissions for VOC's are substantially less than for gasoline.

A little nugget that completely relates to VOC evaporation: The flash point is a descriptive characteristic that is used to distinguish between flammable fuels, such as petrol (gasoline in the US), and combustible fuels, such as diesel.

Diesel vehicles don't even need an evaporative system like gasoline cars do because Diesel's evaporation rate is close to non existent at normal temps a vehicle would encounter. Yup. Completely ignored by the EPA.

I don't know about the darling of the Democratic Party as much as voter apathy. She was able to get a little more than half (6.785%) of the 11.8 percent that turned out to vote for her. It is a shame more people don't vote. Voter apathy will be the death of us yet as these kinds of people get elected by a very small percentage of the population. Maybe we should be thinking of a law that requires you to vote if you are able to. You can't complain about things if you don't participate.

I think the fact that AOC is a beautiful young woman is what really bothers conservatives. Fox and friends didn't throw hissy fits about Bernie being a socialist. Anyhow, this really isn't the right forum for political griping, so...

Focusing exclusively on NOx emissions is an incomplete way of assessing exhaust emissions impact on air quality. Lower NOx emissions at the expense of higher emissions of other criteria pollutants is not necessarily beneficial.

The non-NOx emissions of this PHEV system are not given (full paper paywalled). However, emissions testing of an ultra-low NOx CNG engine revealed that while NOx emissions were much lower than diesel truck engines that were tested, NMHC, CO, NH3, and PN were much higher:

- NH3 concentration of the ultra-low NOx CNG engine varied from 118 ppm (UDDS) to 305 ppm (CBD). 2010-compliant diesel truck engine NH3 emissions ranged from 0.124 ppm – 1.369 ppm in ACES 2 study.

- CO emissions ranged between 1.3 to 5.3 g/bhp-hr for CNG. Diesel engine emissions ranged from 0.023 g/bhp-hr – 0.096 g/bhp-hr in ACES 2.

- NMHC emissions ranged from 0.003 g/bhp-hr to 0.594 g/bhp-hr for CNG. Diesel engine emissions were measured at 0.000 g/bhp-hr g/bhp-hr in ACES 2.

- The CNG engine show higher PN emissions compared to diesel vehicles equipped with DPFs, although no actual measurements were presented.

Sorry. My thoughts about the climate change hoax were mostly referring to and the politics wasn't really where I was headed. I was just referring to one hare brain that pushes a beyond reality agenda and has no clue what they are talking about.
