I'm 6'5" and I just barely fit in my mk4 Jetta, looking for a lower seat option so I can stop bashing my noggin on my custom headliner when I hit a bump in the road...

Already considered installing a bubble dome ala the Jetsons, but the girlfriend had some words about that, so that's out...

I'm not sure how much you wanna spend, but could look into getting a set of aftermarket seats. I'm not sure how much lower these seats are, but they might be worth looking into. https://bride-jp.com/en/seat/stradia/

Another option would be to check out the seats from Corbeau. https://corbeau.com/index.php

I'm sure there's an option out there for someone your height, you just need to search the interwebz for it. Also check with a few of the VW MKIV groups on Facebook to see if someone already has done what you're trying to accomplish.

Otherwise good luck with finding a set of seats for your Jetta. :)

to point out the obvious as someone so kindly did for me years back:

you do know our seats got a height adjustment on them already right? on the left side of the bottom cushion there's a lever pointing forward, push it down seat goes down, pull it up seat goes up.

@[486] yeah, I have it lowered all the way [emoji12] did that when I bought the thing 5 years ago and have just dealt with driving with my head at a slight angle,

I'm just sorta terrified of what will happen in even a minor accident... Probably snap my neck hitting the drop where the sun visor is.

@3L3M3NT good suggestions, not sure if I can afford those, but it's a good starting place.

If you just need to replace the driver's seat you could look into these as a few options.
A lower priced version of the Bride seats I posted above. http://www.s2carbonworks.com/brdilowmaxgr.html
Here's a Sparco R100 seat. http://www.s2carbonworks.com/spr1rabuse.html
I'm not sure about the quality, but you could look into these NRG Type R seats. http://www.s2carbonworks.com/nrgtyrblrase.html
NRG's website. https://drivenrg.com/collections/seats
Their brackets and sliders. https://drivenrg.com/products/seat-brackets

Looks like Corbeau offers a few low base reclining seats on their website. https://www.corbeau-seats.com/product-category/reclining-bucket-seats/

Another brand that's reasonably priced is Braum. https://www.braumracing.com/
Looks like you can get a pair of Braum seats for $599 and that includes the sliders, so you just need the brackets. https://www.carid.com/2004-volkswagen-golf-seats/braum-s8-seats-785932865.html?parentsubmodel[]=MODEL|Golf

You'll have to check and see what is included with each seat, since some might come with a seat bracket and slider. While others may not, so you'd have to order them. Like these bases from Planted. https://www.plantedtechnology.com/planted-seat-bracket-vw-beetle-golf-gti-jetta-mk4-chassis-1999-2005-driver-left.html
I believe there's another company out there that makes brackets as well, I just can't remember their name right now.

Then you'll need a seat slider to adjust the position of the seat front to back.
Like so. http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=169_201_269&product_id=1590

Hopefully you can find a set of seats that will fit in your budget and give you some more headroom, so you don't get seriously injured should you get in an accident.

in that case, if you can run a welder or know someone who will blobberate a seat in for you, many honda seats are very low
first gen insight seats are pretty low, and 80s-99 civic seats are also very low
just they bolt straight down into the floor, so you need to weld a couple bits of square tube to the floorpan to put bolts into

ETA: probably easier to take the stock seat out and find where it bottoms out in its adjustment, then just cut a little out so that it'll drop lower
then you also can keep the side airbag

Are there usually issues with the side airbag when changing seats?

I can weld, and I'm pretty good at blobberating. I'll swing by the junkyard and see what I can see.

@3L3M3NT I appreciate your help.

well, you gotta solder a couple resistors into the wires to get the light turned off, and the female side of the seatbelt buckle is integrated into the seat frame

I'm 6'2" and I'm ok with .:R32 seats. The bottom is considerably slimmer than the regular seats my car came with. Typically, I have the seats all the way down in the white car. I lean back a decent amount, but I'm still comfortable and can reach the steering wheel just fine. If you see me from the side, I pretty much sit where the B-pillar is because I scoot the bottom all the way back and lean back in the sedan. With the .:R32 seats in the wagon, I feel like I have to keep the back MUCH more vertical because of the difference in the height of the bottom of the seats. My .:R32 seats are still heated (because winter sucks), they are comfortable and I fit in them being ~200lbs. They are OEM seats, so they fit just fine. With the regular seats, I feel like I'm sitting ON the seats VS the .:R32 seats, where I feel like I sit IN them, if that makes sense.

You may want to check into modifying the brackets instead of changing the seats. I've put aftermarket seats in Jeeps before and most are made for short seat time and not very comfortable for road use. If you think about putting junkyard seats in you'll be modding the brackets anyway.

that can't be true... I'm 6'4 and I sit better with lots of headroom in my current Mk4 than my old passat B6. In any of my cars I use the same steering wheel and seat position, steering wheel on lowest and full forward(towards driver) position, seat as low as I can and a little bit lean back (because of my posture).
