There does not appear to be any fun threads here, so how about a thread dealing with suggested Tdi Mods?. Here are a few ideas to bantor about:

1. Converting a 5 speed Manual Transmission (o2J) to an Automatic Transmission (o1m);

2. Adding a WVO system to a 2009 CR Loyalty Edition model;

3. Converting a metal skidplate to an OEM Plastic model;

4. A how to remove your aftermarket tune;

5. Adding that perfect factory seat to replace your Recaro add in;

6. Replacing OEM Hid lights for ecodes;

7. How to remove your .658/.681 gear for stock;

8. How to kill your HPFP;

9. How to replace a 17/22 with a vnt 15;

10. How to add a K&N Air Filter.

Just some suggestions :D ........ Thoughts?

Add in-dash cupholders to your late Mk4.

Swap out your heavy large-roller timing belt setup for a lightweight 99.5 model using the mark-and-pray method.

Make that swapping out the 02A and swapping in the 01M, and I'll attend that session.

Replace that communist-housing-block-grey Relay 109 with a svelte black model.

Ditch that unreliable rubberband of a timing belt for a much more reliable chain-drive system from a VR6.

Replacing the outdated ALH GP system with one of two options: robust yet ineffective ceramic GPs or frangible but stout steel GPs.

I say throw out all the mods and get new ones. New mods are better than old mods full of hot air.

Remove that 2-µm CAT fuel filter and reinstall the OEM housing and filter. I actually had a well respected TDI Club personality tell me to do this recently. I didn't take the suggestion.

Well respected, but no longer by you?
Me? I'd remove the cat filter if it were on my used car purchase. I won't fault you for choosing to have one, and wouldn't suggest you scrap it, but I don't perceive the benefit to be worthwhile for me. Factory fuel filters have not given me any reason to search for alternatives.

I agree. The factory filter, mickey mouse clip, thermostatic tee, et al serve me well. I've heard of the thermostatic tees failing and allowing air leaks, but that's easily diagnosed and remedied, I'd rather have it there recycling the warm fuel in cold weather. I wonder if anyone has measured the additional stress on VE pumps having to draw the fuel through the revised filter setup. I imagine it's not unlike sticking a sponge in your drinking straw and trying to drink. Having a lift pump to alleviate that would be a requirement before I changed mine.

It was suggested that you do this:

While you were troubleshooting an engine problem that seemed like a fuel starvation problem.

So it was a logical and proper suggestion.

To maintain balance between the four, it is necessary to use two hammers in each hand. I personally don't have the skill, but I have signed up for xylophone lessons at the community college extension and expect to be fully qualified as any VW authorized factory trained service tech to execute this at the 'fest.
And I think that "execution" is a proper choice of vocabulary.

Dump all of the gurus and go back to the dealer for all service. Good advice, good OEM parts, great prices. :eek:
