Well, I've just taken delivery of my first TDI: 02Golf5M4dr-blk/blk! ..with a free/spare relay 109
Yesterday I was helping someone solve a malfunction in tailight assembly on an '87 Jetta ..easily diagnosed thanks to the owners manual having a concise list in fuse-numerical order, with 2-3 english WORDS describing what's fused and the fuse SIZE needed. So whazzup with the lame "internationalized" fuse "icon" reference card in the new cars
I'd asked the salesman to provide me copy of whatever TEXT version of those Icons the service guys must have in a manual somewhere; he says service uses the same icon-card (hard to believe). I've enlarged the icon-card 2X and still can't readily guess what half of them are! ..nor does it indicate fuse needed. Yes, in daylight, I can see the color of the fuse, but Murphy's law suggests that it'll be dark and raining when I'd need to figure out what's needed. The '87 manual lets one learn what's likely needed without even looking at the fuse box. The 2002 icon-card seems counterintuitive, a step backward. I've only flipped through the manual once, so may have missed something ..but is there a URL that decodes these too-clever icons?!

Thanks, MIGolf, for the reference (can't access it yet since the image server is down). Sorta surprised no one else shares my inability to decipher the fuse icon-card symbols. 3 show a 'key', but each means what? 5 are an engine w/'zap', but differ how? Several other duplicates, etc, and 10 that look like an open book with a ! on left 'page' ..perhaps those are for MS-Windows plug-ins :~)

Thanks for posting a readable version. My sunroof has developed a mind of it's own and the last thing you want to see on a snowy morning is your sunroof tilted open with no human input. So being able to pull the fuse offers piece of mind.

But if it were a gasoline car it would have? Pretty sure the gas and diesel share same fuse block?:)
While your correct this is a TDI forum w/tdi discussions:D Now where is that poking ya with a stick emoticon when you need it:cool:

anyway judging (or miss judging) by comments in here and other threads; apparently some TDI's do have a fuel pump in the tank? Just not the 2000 model year?

This has all been so confusing. A good number of folk have mentioned in here that the Bently Manuel can be rather vague and in some places actually wrong in one place and correct in another on the same topic. In particular the electrical info.
