I have been working on this for over a year, reasearching, asking questions, etc.. I originally was going to buy the Elsbett Kit but, in the end I wound up making my own.

It's a pretty simple and straight forward system. I am using Lube Specialist 2 Micron CAT Filter, Neoteric Biofuel's Vegtherm, a coolant fuel heat exchanger, Smog's VEG-205 nozzles and a return loop.

I originally set out to build the smallest, cleanest, hassle free Vegoil System I could. I think I did it. I have it plumbed so that I can swicth back and forth from Veg to diesel by flipping two valves and unpluging the vegtherm. I have Gauges, Switches, and solenoid valves in the works to control everything but, that will come in a bit.

So Far I have about 450 Miles on it and have run about 10 gallons of Vegoil throught it. It's running great, a little quieter and not alot of smoke. I filled the tank again today to the very top and I will see how my milage is next.

In keeping with simple and no muss no fuss, I have built a prefilter/storage/pump unit for the garage. It has a large stainless steel strainer inside and a goldenrod 10 micron filter. It is an electric pump and it takes all of about 5 minutes to fill my tank. All I do is pour my collected and settled oil through a strainer in the top of the drum, turn on the pump and I filter the oil and fill the car at the same time.

So Far I am in the Conversion and Building the Pre-Filter about $800.00

If you want the full skinny on what I did I pretty much kept a build log in In this thread on the SVO forum at Infopop.

Good write up and photos!

One question came to mind - do you have a smaller tank of regular diesel somewhere in the vehicle for cold starts? Where is it at and what size is it?

No, I don't it's a single tank setup. I haven't had an issue with cold starts yet, but I am in Florida. As the weather cools off around Novemberish That may Change.

Cool system, I like the small looped return with the option for air bleeding. I hope to be converting my tdi soon to a 2 tank system. Keep us posted. Dave

Dave,
I'll keep you posted. I would loop the return on a two tank system also. If you used a Pollack Valve you could control it with a swicth. I plan on changing mine to that soon. With a two tank though you just have to make sure your fuel get returned to the correct tank.

Could you please fill me in on how this went? I know it's been a decade, but I'm doing a single tank wvo on my 01 beetle. Wondering about the 205 nozzles.
