Another 4wheelfun review:

Volkswagen now offers the Crafter van (think Sprinter, but with a Volkswagen front end and Volkswagen drivetrains) with a 4-wheel-drive system engineered by Austrian supplier Achleitner.
4" lift, heavy-duty suspension bits, 2.5:1 transfer case, three pneumatically locking diffs and off-road tires make the big van quite impressive off-road - and the twin-turbo 2.0 TDI works great in this application, according to the review.

Kinda interesting, in that disjoint, dead-pan, unemotional kind of way that screams, 'we know it will never see this side of the pond in numbers more than 1.' And that is only if they bring one to an auto show.

Too bad. If they did, I'd bet they could sell 14 or 15 dozen over 5 years (because it would be ridiculously overpriced). Make it a good camper van conversion platform and price it under 30k, and they'd fly off the dealer lots faster than VW could load the boats to get them here.

there are lots of sprinter campers around north america, but with a sprinter being pricey to start with, it just means that the sprinter campers are way too much $$$
