TDI offerings in North America versus TDI offering everywhere else

I'm not sure, but I think "stratified injection" just means that the fuel is injected in a couple of stages. I don't think that term is applicable to TDIs, though we do have "Pilot Injection". A tiny quantity of fuel is injected ahead of the main injection. It starts to burn immediately, and help ignite the main injection and burn it more efficiently.

North America only gets the TDI models you mentioned, and only with the 90hp version. Our 90 does have the VNT-15 Variable Geometry turbo, though.

In Europe nearly ALL cars and trucks are available with a diesel engine. With the possible exception of the TT Coupe I believe every VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda vehicle has a diesel option, from the tiny 3 cylinder TDI in the Lupo to the monster V8 in the Audi A8. A single model usually has a variety of diesel engine choices. A Bora (Jetta), for example, can be had with the 90hp, 110hp, 115hp Pumpe Deuse, or even the new 150hp engine. Passats have a couple of 4 cyl options available, plus the Common Rail V6. Europe is a diesel-lovers paradise! Even buyers of high end luxury cars like the BMW 7-series will often specify a big diesel rather than a V12 gasser...not because they can't afford the fuel, but simply because they like the low end torque of the diesel. The V8 BMW diesel outsells the V12 gasser by a considerable margin.

FSI means Fuel Stratified Injection, it´s VW´s term for a direct-injection gasser. VW is currently offering it only in the Lupo.
OK, VW offers TDIs here in Europe in the:
- Lupo (1,2l PD 61hp, 1.4l PD 75hp)
- Polo (1.4l PD 75hp)
- Polo Classic and Wagon (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l 110hp)
- Golf (1.9l 90hp (fading out), 1.9l PD 100hp, 1.9l 110hp (fading out), 1.9l PD 115hp, 1.9l PD 150hp)
- Bora (Jetta): same as Golf
- New Beetle: (1.9l PD 100hp, 90 hp in Automatic)
- Passat (1.9l PD 100hp, 1.9l PD 130hp, 2.5l V6 150hp)
- Sharan (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l PD 115hp)
- Caravelle (Eurovan) (2.5l 88hp, 2.5l 102hp, 2.5l 150hp)
plus various TDIs in VW´s commercial vehicles: the Transporter and the LT

the TDI also exist in other VW Group cars:

Audi:
- A2 (1.2l PD 61hp, 1.4l PD 75hp)
- A3 (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l 110hp, 1.9l PD 130hp)
- A4 (1.9l PD 130hp, 2.5l V6 180hp)
- A6 (1.9l PD 115hp, 2.5l 150hp, 2.5l V6 180hp)
- allroad (2.5l V6 180hp)
- A8 (2.5l V6 180hp, 3.3l V8 225hp)

Seat:
- Arosa (1.4l PD 75hp)
- Ibiza, Cordoba (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l 110hp)
- Leon, Toledo (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l 110hp, 1.9l PD 150hp)
- Alhambra (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l PD 115hp)

Skoda:
- Fabia (1.9l PD 100hp)
- Octavia (1.9l 90hp, 1.9l 110hp)
there are also SDIs (non-turbo) in some models

and finally
there´s a TDI in a Volvo, the old 2.5l 4 cyl engine was licensed to Volvo, so there´s also:
- V 70 (2.5l, 140hp)
- S 80 (2.5l, 140hp)

plus a lot of other direct injection diesels from almost all other brands

Ok, I have a simple question:
I am pretty sure(please correct me if I'm wrong) that TDIs are currently offered in 3 models(Golf, Jetta, and NB) in North America. How many different models are TDIs offered in in the rest of the world? Also, what is FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection)? Is that a variation of a diesel engine or is it gasoline powered? Thanks for the help.
