Well its been fun but Harvey killed my wagon. Had 3' of water in house and lost everything. Going to miss the TDI and not sure what to replace with now.

Very sorry to hear about all your losses. After what I have read about the flood prone nature of the Houston area (100 significant floods since its founding) I would take the insurance and raise the house and garage 6 feet.

Sorry to hear about your losses iamatt. Hopefully everyone is safe and the insurance company covers it all. Good luck rebuilding. Maybe you can still find a new 2015 GSW TDI.

You should be able to get the restitution amount and let insurance make up the rest. IMHO

Geico cut me a small check. I did pull the ECU which didn't touch water. It has malone stage 2 for an 2014 manual if anyone can use?

Sorry to hear about your car, hope everything else is alright. ECU will need an immo defeat to work on another car, if you'd like to ship it up to us we can do it for free.

Is it true that most Texans drive pickups? They don't get 30+ MPG. To me, these pickups and all the SUVs are showing Americans don't much care about global warming, which, they say, causes more radical weather {hurricanes, floods etc]
That's one reason for TDIs, Puises etc.
Nuff said.

Pretty tasteless timing for giving Texans a hard time- especially those impacted by severe flooding. I see lots of unloaded pickups all over the country. Very common in my area. They are quite utilitarian and not everyone can afford multiple vehicles.

If it wasn't for the pickups towing boats in to rescue stranded residents, there would have been a lot more loss of life here. I didn't see any Prius's pulling any rescue craft during the storm though.

What works for me is, for hauling, I have a 4' by 6' trailer that combined with the Golf hatch will transport most everything I need. This allows me to drive a "fun to drive" car for most everything else. It's surprising how much fits in the back of a Golf.

Really sorry to read about the car and of course all of the other property damage. A 2014 JSW with a 6 speed and a Malone 2 tune.....that is a tough one to lose. I would love to happen upon a vehicle like that for sale.

Wow, no one wanted to mention he could buy it back from the insurance and then tell him to file for buy back?

Even though it got soaked if it dried out I bet it could run enough for VW to cut a check.

You must have missed this comment then.

I'm not going to start the legal argument of you proposal but with all the hassles others are facing with totaled titles, this path seems like the most logical and perhaps quickest solution to getting the VW buyback money out of it. Of course, now that he pulled the ECU, I'm not sure it is eligible for the buyback. It sure as heck won't run without it.

Yeah that maybe was an option. I don't have time for that noise I'm tearing my whole house down at the moment. Picked up a CDI instead.

I you could have gotten it to run, and drive under it's own power, VW might have bough it back. I do not know if there is/was a deadline for choosing between restitution and buyback.

I lost mine to a reckless MB E350 driver, but was able to sell it back to VW after buying a new lower control arm and having it installed so it was "driveable". The buyback specialist didn't even drive it when I brought it in on a trailer. Didn't even start it.

We are still waiting to hear from the MB driver's insurance company after a 3rd offer back and forth on the settlement. I had medical bills and needed vestibular and cognitive therapy. Got bashed pretty hard. The initial offer didn't come close to covering pain and suffering, much less damages. We may end up in court on this. I am not going to accept less than a reasonable settlement. Darned insurance company.

Sorry to hear that Dub. I knew the car was toast but didn't realize you were banged up that badly.
