VW service center suggests replacent of 2011 Golf TDI timing belt at 130,000 miles.

Does this sound right?

Thanks

Yep, better materials keep moving the changing point up, as long as the bearings hold out.

Have you read your owners manual? The interval should be in there. I thought it was 100k on these but I may be wrong.

I had the exact same question. I just bought a 2011 JSW last week and my service manual also says to replace the timing belt at 130,000 miles. I would think there be something along the lines of 130,000 miles or X years, to take aging into account, but I guess that's what inspections are for.

Inspections don't help much unless a tooth is missing or something else real obvious, otherwise they appear okay.

I second this. There isn't a whole lot to be gained from inspections save from identfying catastrophic failure of the belt itself. The issue generally lies within one of the bearings or the tensioner or the waterpump seizing up and shreding the belt.

Given how long it will probably take me to hit 130,000 miles, I think I will plan on getting this replaced sooner. Any recommendations? My old Passat (not a diesel) had its timing belt replaced around 100k miles, just before it turned 10 years old.

There was a big debate about miles vs. time on these. Some said 6 years of use IIRC.
