I need to order some parts and I'm not sure where to find the GL or GLX or whatever designation it is.

Any idea as to where to find this at ?

It doesn't seem to be on the door or the registration.

Thanks

I didn't know they made a 2011 Beetle. I know 2013 was the first year for a TDI in this body style.

The TDI was GL or GLS. You won't find it on the car. These are the different ways of finding out:

1) It's on the original sticker.
2) The equipment level indicates trim level. You can tell us if you have power windows, cruise control, leather seats, sunroof, etc and we can tell you. Or you can google "2001 Beetle trim levels" and compare the descriptions to what you have.
3) A Volkswagen dealer can tell you based upon the VIN.

Yeah, I've got all the stuff. Power windows, heated seats, sunroof.

I'll google trim levels and see what it says.

The noise is getting louder all the time and I'd really like to fix it before anyhting explodes ;--)

Oh say is their a tutorial on swapping out CV joints in the site somewhere ?

Did you see that this is the 2012+ Beetle forum??? You should move this thread to VW MKIV-A4 TDIs (VE and PD) which includes your Beetle.

There are just too many to list....
You are in the wrong forum. But on your 2001 New Beetle TDI, you had two choices: GL and GLS. And those were easy to tell apart. GLS has power windows, GL does not. There are a few other minor trim differences, but that is the quick easy one.

The mechanicals are all the same, however.
