I played with the estimator earlier (not available standalone any more I think -other than step 11) and for me it was showing that a new slab starts at 59K and ends at 84K which seems random. Since I am at 56K, this has kinda messed up things for me and I have switched cars with my wife (her work is much closer) and hoping that I get a date soon. The new slab reduces payout by 1300 or so.

On the final step you enter your kilometers that "YOU THINK YOU WILL HAVE ON THE DAY OF RETURN". From what I was told from the buy back rep when he called me this morning, is you can not go over that final number that you entered on "YOU THINK YOU WILL HAVE ON THE RETURN DATE" by 2000k.

The buyback rep will also e-mail you his contact info right after he calls. He leaves his personal phone number and e-mail address to reach him directly for any questions or concerns you may have. So once you get to that step don't worry about researching on the internet call him/her directly since they will be the one handing you the check or directing you to the trade in salesman.

My date is JUNE 6th for buyback and my Passat is staying parked until that day. I've got access to two other vehicles so I'm lucky lol

can you clarify par.1

are we expected to project the KM on turn-in date...all along I understood to be "the current mileage at that time of the call" and an additional allowance of up to 2K on top by turn-in date"

true ?

When you talk to the rep you'll again confirm the current KM's and from that point you have 2000 km until your turn in date - go over, you start from the bottom.

I filled in the original paper work with 186k km actual and I turned 190k on the way home last night.

Gone...
Obviously, it is not the fault of the people who pass in front of us, nor the fault of VW, but the fault of rice pudding.
Update, I contacted the lawyers again. I complained about others cutting in ahead of us in the line, and I complained about the almost impossible task of speaking to a customer service agent at RicePoint.

She asked for my reference number and said she would check with RicePoint that our claim was processing normally.

Hopefully that will be helpful...

No, same as you, still waiting on the green checks. It's been about a week without progress. But I'm still hesitant on the next car so not in a huge hurry!
Are we the only people leasing ? LOL ...I am at the green checkmarks step 15, was put on hold Tuesday evening(this week) for about 55 mins, finally spoke to " Lana" a rep who told me that my documents are being approved by an " Auditor Specialist" who goes over documents and makes final approval. Once he signs off on them, they're supposed to send email with offer that I'm supposed upload in PDF form. I haven't logged into portal since last night, too early still. Guess I'm gonna have to wait it out like the rest of us here.

Good update, thanks. I didn't have better luck this afternoon. I was on hold for about 45 min before I had to hang up.:(

I'll try again tomorrow morning. Now 9 days of green check marks.

Frustration Over

Finally got my documentation approved after the 3rd attempt. They kept refusing to validate my bill of sale. Last 2 downloads of the bos were the same. Go figure? I have a question regarding the mileage info they wanted. When filling out the forms they asked for the mileage in 2 different questions. I answered by giving the actual mileage to both questions. The first time they asked did they want the mileage when I purchased the vehicle? No clear explanation on the forms.

Rice point are feeding many of us BS

I'm one of those trapped in the original submission phase (Apr 29) then asked to resubmit on May 5th. Green check marks on May 10th. Last Monday, I call asking a legitimate question (about being able to change my mind after I sign Final offer as I have a conditional offer on a new Audi if delivered by end of month). We know that's not happening! So, on Monday, I was advised by agent that my offer was written on the 12th and was in review. Green check marks continually since...I call today, I was advised my final offer was written on the 16th and it should be anytime now. I asked if it was rewritten, he stated no. So I asked whether it was him or the previous person I spoke with was lying to me. As I explained what was told to me on Monday, he didn't speak a word. He simply said thanks for waiting and hung up. Ignorant ---. I was nothing but polite until I called them out for lying to me.
I have a feeling that those of us that are opting for a trade in with VW/Audi are last on their priority list when you'd think we'd be a priority to keep $ in VW coffers?
Idiots. Idiotic process and don't waste your time calling them as they just feed you BS to make you go away and feel something is being done.

People keep going on about term mileage, but not much info is provided:
What are the brackets? (0-40K - 40K-80K - 80K-120K - 120K-160K and so on????)

How do I know where I fall in this mileage bracket and prevent going over?

Seems like a lot of people are parking their TDIs to prevent adding kms but, I don't have that luxury.
I was talking specifically about a LEASE. My lease has 20k per year and a 3 year lease. My understanding is that on my early lease termination, I can return it with anything up to 60k and I'll be OK even though I've only had it two years they won't be looking for 40k or less (which would suck as I'm over that).

Has any Canadian who is leasing sold to a friend/spouse in order to be able to register as an eligible owner? I know this was a loophole in the US deal, does it exist in the Canadian deal I wonder?

This doesn't make sense because you can change your appointment date.

I never spent much time with the calculator when it was available because I didn't realize that they would discontinue it's use.
The wife is averaging 1249 km/mo or 14992 Km/yr.
Currently the odometer is showing 82495 and in Aug will be showing approx 86243.
We are planning on doing the buyback and replacing the car.
Can't park it immediately because she needs it to go to work.
If we park the car in Aug 2017 {est km 86243} and turn it in in Dec 2017{when the extended warranty runs out} would we gain any real value on the buyback?
The yearly average would only go down to 14176km and would this make a difference in the buyback?
If we parked it in Aug 2017 and claimed the buyback in Aug 2018 our yearly average would drop to 11760km/yr.
Any idea how much buyback money we would gain?
I see that there are calculators available for the US buyback, is there one available for the Canadian Settlement?

This has me curious as well, because I read about it maybe a month ago ? Not sure about us here in Canada, but I do remember the person in the U.S. was very adamant about having family member buy out the lease and then sell it back. I'm sure if you do a search " lease " it should come up.

It makes sense if you don't change your appointment date lol.

Call or e-mail your buyback rep he will tell you exactly how it works.

I was called by the rep to confirm my appointment then called by ricepoint a few hours later to confirm the kilometers. I bet the ricepoint call was made when they where printing the check. He specifically told me I would not recieve a check on my appointment date if I went over the 2k and I'd have to be re looked at. I told him it won't be over because car got parkec as soon as the final agreement doc's where uploaded.

So yesterday someone finally woke up at ricepoint saying that there might have been something wrong with my ownership from the beginning even though I had green checkmarks in the system since April 29th and that a letter was drafted on May 4th. He assured me that he would take care of it and that a supervisor would do a ''push up'' whatever that means.. we'll see if something comes out of this but again I feel like they just wanted to get rid of me.. ahah.

All the events at Ricepoint need to be noted on a forum, and the negotiations should be looked at, The pure SH.T show that the owners have faced should be a whole book for The Lemonaid series of Phil Edmonston...

Nope, no loophole in Canada - if you bought after the scandal, they specifically ask if the car was under lease when the scandal broke (by you, or someone else), and answering either question Yes locks you into the 'No buyback unless there's no fix' side of things.

Now, if you were the person leasing when the scandal broke, you get twice as much as the sorry money than if you bought it off lease from someone else... If you bought out your lease, you get half the sorry money an owner does. If you bought out a lease from someone else, you get 25% of the sorry money. Lessees get the shaft, for sure.

SO, no, there's no way to force yourself into a buyback position like the US deal. The crux of the issue being the US deal does not ask when you bought the car (which is definitely biting VW of USA in the ass). The Canadian deal rectified that.

This works in the US because the US deal doesn't ask you HOW you got possession of the vehicle, unlike the Canadian deal. Also, sellers in the US had until last September to identify themselves, so anyone selling after that gets nothing. The math is much easier in the US.

How are your offers comparing to the Black Book calculator that was previously available?

I ran multiple mileage numbers to assess my situation, and planned to keep the car for another 30k / Sept 2018 as my estimated values were the exact same as now, with 150k. It didn't drop until 182500km, and then only about $500.

Is there any way to confirm this with VW now that the online estimator is gone?

As we speak I am on hold waiting to speak to an agent, listening to corny music and repeated entreaties to stay on the line, on my speakerphone. The initial message said at least 15 minutes wait.

I hope the agent comes on before it's time to go for a p. With my luck that will be when the agent answers...

You can access the calculator via the claim, I think it was step 13 or something. If you aren't planning on moving too fast trough the claim, just stop at that step (I'm thinking about asking to be reset to that step myself).

At any rate, numbers that that step spit out are identical to the original calculator. Subject to mileage breakpoints of course.

That is not half bad idea. I figure it might happen as I decide to change from a trade in to a buyback.

On another note....is there anyone trading in a 2015 A3 anywhere in the GTA? :) I wonder if another sticky or spreadsheet is warranted for those people trying to align themselves with 2015s that are coming in. Maybe not. If I know an A3 is coming in close by I may go to try and immediately negotiate.

I guess its possible if it was prior to the cut-off for eligibility hey?

Update

[Edited to include all activity on May 19th]

Said I would give an update when there was movement...
  • Live in Quebec
  • Own my 2009 Jetta
  • Apr 28 Created account
  • Apr 29 Uploaded final document
  • May 6 Document status changed to "Document Complete" (green check marks)
  • May 18 Received email that documents were complete (ie. that the above happened 12 days earlier?)
  • May 19 Email that offer was ready (same as the estimate earlier in the process)
  • May 19 Printed, signed, and uploaded offer and release
  • May 19 Email the same afternoon to schedule my appointment (June 5th was the earliest at all dealers I looked up)
  • May 20 VW Claims Scheduling Centre called to verify my odometer reading and my appointment details

BTW, the "documents complete" email and offer email both came in around midnight, 24hrs apart, thus it's likely a batch process that runs overnight

You must be the first, from QC, on this forum.

I never got the "documents complete" email. Can't get a straight answer out of RicePoint either. So I am worried that our file is stuck in limbo because something on the portal isn't working right.
