Jumped back into the car after a brief stop Friday evening. All the dash lights light up after inserting the key, including ones I've never seen before. Temp and fuel gauges rolled full right, then full left, full right, then left, then stopped. Immobilizer light was on (although I didn't see this at first). Car would start, then die. The usual immobilizer woes. Further attempts were futile, only succeeded in aggravating me, and changing the dash display to "lights out" at times before starting, then it dies again.
VW 24 Roadside Assistance had me try to flip the key (NG) and try my other keys (all 3 keys did the same thing). So they had it towed to the dealer where they'll look at it this morning.
No idea why this crapped out, but I know it's not uncommon. An even bigger mystery though is why did both the odometer and trip odometer suddenly change displays? The odometer suddenly rolled up an additional 10,000 + miles !!!!! And the trip ododmeter would flash " def. " when I'd try to start it.
Any clues as to what's going on, both with the immobilzer and even scarier, the odometer? Does this indicate that the ECM's memory for the actual, accurate mileage on the car is now corrupted ? I already alerted VW and the dealer that this is to be looked at before the attempt to reprogram anything.
