Should a cammed TDI sound "cammy"?

Mine has sounded quite cammy on tickover.

Just checking this is normal. :) This stops keeping the throttle at such a place it is doing 1100rpm.

I've only heard 3 TDI's with cams and all of them idled normally. I don't think it would sound like a V8 with a cam so to speak. What kind of cam do you have? If you have a lumpy idle, I'd look more at your nozzles and talk with your tuner. I know you threw in some not so common nozzles recently...

Mine is lumpy at cold start, but I attribute that to the 12mm pump. It goes away after a min.

I would not expect a cammed diesel to "lope" like a gasser. Lope is caused largely by valve overlap and our engines don't have any.
