I appologize if this might be writen up already, but I can't seem to seach on how to Jack up a Passat properly. The closes I've seen is for a A4 Jetta.

Is there a good write up somewhere?

Thanks

BTW - I only have a 3 ton floor jack and related jack stands.

I just rotated my tires last night and it's still fresh on my mind. There are 4 jack points on the car, each point is 17cm inboard of the wheels (per manual). You're looking for a reinforced rail to jack the car up. Word of caution for you though. The rear jack point isn't as tough as the front one and when I positioned my jack-stand under the rear point, the jack-point buckled a little bit. If you're going to use stands, I would recommend you put a small block of wood between it and the car to spread the load out a bit. Good luck.

So this where I am confused. How do I get my hydraulic floor jack and the jack stands on the same jack point?

Ahhhhhh, roger that. I cheated a little ;)and put my jack inboard a little bit to make room to put the jack-stands in the proper place. The key to the whole thing is to distribute the load enough so that the car's jack-points don't bend...hence the block(s) of wood.

I use the ProTech jack pads (thanks MoGolf) & use the pinch weld. For the rears I position the stands as shown in the link. Front I use the weld & then put the stands north-south just inside the outer rail.

Seems to work

Of note - I asked the very same question :D

Full speed into another car works well...

Keep in mind that there are also indicator points for where the central part of the rail that you jack on is located.

The rear has a small triangle, and the front actually has a little flip out plastic door which allows you to see it better.

Most crucial is that you get the metal rail inside the slot of the jack, not the edge of the plastic trim that wraps down next to the rail. I have not done that, but have started to when I thought it was where it belonged (its a get on your knees operation). I feel to make sure that the jack is on both sides before I start.

Get this lift pad kit from World Impex. They create lift points that are perfect for floor jacks. I installed and used on my Passat before I sold it. If I remember correctly there were 2 covers over the front holes. The rear holes are open and easy to find.

I used a grooved 2X4 when I had my Jetta. These lift pads are more secure and always there.
