It's actually very close racing, with plenty going on throughout the field. There was just a race today, in fact, this time at a race circuit that's used for other things (WTCC), the Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakesh, Morocco). For direct comparison, the fastest lap set in qualifying was a 1:20.993 (by Jean-Éric Vergne in a DS Virgin), and the fastest race lap was a 1:22.600 (by Loïc Duval in a Faraday Future Dragon). In WTCC, the fastest qualifying lap this year (the first year of the current track layout) was a 1:21.743 (by Rob Huff in a Civic), fastest race lap was in race 1, 1:23.087 (by Hugo Valente in a Lada Vesta).

Oh, and for the same driver... José-María López did a qualfying lap of 1:22.133 and a race lap of 1:24.690 in Formula E (in a DS Virgin), versus a qualifying lap of 1:22.024 and a race lap of 1:23.447 in WTCC (in a Citroën C-Elysée), although he's been dominant in WTCC, and is a rookie in Formula E (but the only driver in this Formula E race with experience of this circuit).

Basically, we're talking about cars that are a bit faster than 380-400 hp 1.6T race versions of FWD production cars. Granted, these are single seaters that are much lighter, but they're limited to about 230 hp in race trim, 270 hp in qualifying trim.

Of course, it's usually Sebastien Buemi or Lucas di Grassi (which... wait, they're top-tier LMP1 drivers, Buemi for Toyota, di Grassi for Audi...) who wins races, but hey.
