Yes, generally speaking, diesel engines will demonstrate better efficiency a little later and longer than gasoline engines. All of my US diesel powered vehicles (mostly pickups) over the years would get better fuel mileage as the miles racked up particularly after the 10K mile mark, and would plateau around the 60-70K mile mark.
