Great work man this looks really good. Just a quick question, I read on a post here that the intake manifold design on the tdis is very important, for "swirl" when air enters the head, I thought it sounded kind of fishy. Is it true? Or is it more important to have the level of flow needed to make a large turbo work. Thanks

intake ports are important yes, oem manifold are not very good and have little to nothing to do with swirl

If this works out i might just skip going to a 17/22 and go straight 20

That is some snazzy and impresive pipe work, metal fab and welding. I look forward to following your build and pics.

It's definitely for a 20. The title is, "2056V Kit Development."

My adapter pipe for my 2056 wasn't to expensive to make. I also bought an 8v turbo manifold too. :( I think total mine cost me around 200 bucks to make. Maybe 250 at max. I'm using a 2056 from a Mercedes though and it's got a weird turbine inlet that faces the same direction as the downpipe.

If you have a spare manifold, just cut the elbow of the turbine housing and weld it directly to the manifold

Got the header worked out. Would've been done much earlier but 2 fords said otherwise .

Clearing the compressor housing proved to be a trick. I think I'm going to move the collector slightly on the next one to make it more friendly for production.

But I'm out of tin foil for backpurging so it's time for a meijer run! Should be all welded up by 1am or so.

Wow, looks great! Despite your interruptions I have to say you are making great progress. Please don't get burned out by working too hard! We need your efforts in TDI land far too much for that, lol.

So are you going to add any bracing or are your primaries going to hold a big old turbo way out there?

Here you go :)

After about 6 hours at the welding bench, we have a completed header :). The header, dp, and tip are all going to get wrapped.

More pictures to come in a few mins as soon as it's cool enough to handle

Matt, any idea what EGTs that header is good for?

304SS is good to ~1600*F sustained. The engine internals and turbo are going to fail before the header does from high egt's.

Shizzler - Yes, there is going to be a turbo brace.

Here's everything roughly bolted up.

Looks pretty sweet, are you going to fab. a custom intake manifold? I assume that one is just for the mock up.

Something along those lines. It got cut up into somthing more useful :).

Milehigh - I usually wrap because it's cheap, quick, easy, and it works great. ...And that doesn't sound wrong at all ....

Everyone keeps forgetting that just because I don't "advertise" an item, doesn't mean I don't or can't make it :). I build whatever is asked for. I charge ~$200 for an intake depending on options. Being that everything is custom, I can do anything you wish with it.
