Trusted TDI Mechanics - By State

FYI -- Streetwerke in Palo Alto is no longer doing diesels.

How about good TDI mechanic in Philadelphia metro area? I know that "the list" has few mechanics, but did anyone used them recently? Any new mechanics that are not on the list?

Check with Richieracket, over in South Jersey. He may be the best you'll find within 75-100 miles of Philly.

Euro Tech in LA no longer works on TDI's

Jose at Euro Tech in West Los Angeles is no longer working on TDI's and had no alternative mechanic to recommend.

That's pretty good news for folks living along the Gulf Coast; there really hasn't been anyone to recommend between Jacksonville and New Orleans. And there are enough TDIs in that area to keep Mr King extremely busy.

has anyone in the west tennessee area had any experience with EUROCARS in Jackson TN?

I have thus far had 2 VERY BAD experiences with them. my dad took his 02 beetle to them when it was having starting problems. they kept the car over a week, called in a specialist, billed him several hundred dollars and still DIDNT get the car fixed. they said they flushed the fuel lines and cleaned the tank as well as put on a new fuel filter. when we took the car to them it would turn over and run for a few minutes, and when we picked it up it wouldnt do anything. we ended up taking the car (on a trailor) to the stealership where they determined that the injector pump had failed. they also "RE"cleaned the fuel tank and took pictures of the sludge they wiped out of the tank!!!

2nd experience- the timing belt on my 02 jetta tdi broke @ 71k miles and i figured since they were just 40 miles down the road i would take it to them instead of going on to German Auto Tech in West Memphis... BIG MISTAKE! they have had my car for nearly 3 weeks now. He's been telling be for about 10 days that he's waiting on the head to come back from the shop. he finally got the head tuesday of this week, at which point he FINALLY noticed that the cam followers needed to be replaced?!?!?! WHAT!!! somebody please tell me why you wouldnt look at the cam followers when you tore the engine down. anyhow- TONY (the owner) told me on wednesday that my car would be finished and test drove by lunch time on thursday so i went ahead and booked a job for the car on friday (i run a pilot car business with the jetta). i called thursday at 2:30 and they told me that it was going to be friday when it was finished, so naturally I FLIPPED OUT! now i have NO WAY to cover the work i have planned for the jetta on friday and on the other hand i have an IDIOT giving me excuse after excuse about why he doesnt have my car finished. when i asked Scott (tonys mechanic) what they had left to do to my car he told me that they STILL had to put the timing belt, 2 pulleys, and the water pump on AND put the motor back in the car!!! my question is : what the heck were you doing to my car after you pulled the head off and sent it out of town? i guess after they sent the head off they shoved my car in the corner and went to work on something else.


sorry to rant on and on about my situation- the point of this post is to WARN ANYONE CONSIDERING GOING TO EUROCARS IN JACKSON TENNESSEE! TAKE YOUR CAR TO SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU VALUE YOUR VEHICLE AND YOUR POCKET BOOK!!!!!

my recommendation is German Auto Tech in West Memphis Arkansas. they are super nice guys and KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING! they're also VERY punctual and dont have a list of excuses about why they done have your car finished yet.

Consider this a suggestion to update the “Trusted Mechanic” list and a nomination for adding Ray G to said list.

Ray has done great work on my A4 TDI. He changed my TB back in the spring. Recently he serviced my 01M transmission, changed out my crusty intake manifold for a fresh and clean one, dialed in the timing and few other things. He has taught me much and provided quality service while saving me tons of cash.


Now for some tags: trusted mechanic; Tulsa; Oklahoma

It's the first post of this thread, back on page 1

It's been over a year since the top post was edited. So a lot of useful information is NOT back on page 1 -- it's scattered throughout this thread.

And, unfortunately, info about a lot of TDI shops is noted in other threads but never made it to this one.

I would be willing to go through all of the posts and create a new word document of the people that meet the criteria to be added to the list. Also take requests from the persons already on the list that need their information updated. Such as people that have a new shop, website, etc...

With a Moderators consent of course that has the power to edit the first post. I do not see any point in superseding the first post with a new list on page 40 or later.

That's something that's needed, but there should be a couple of qualifiers included...

Some of the people who have gotten on the list don't really have any verifiable expertise with TDI-specific service... A shop that has been included on account of having done a good job replacing shocks or brakes doesn't automatically become an acceptable choice to change a timing belt, although it may be top-notch in that regard as well...

Perhaps some mention of the type (and manner) of service performed by the person being recommended would be helpful...

Just a thought or two...

Download the word document I have posted on top and edit it. I can then re-upload it and paste the document in the first post.

Do not delete anything off the list unless you verify a post saying so since I also get verifications by pm.

Shops should only be added if verification has been attained by either multiple members or a trusted member.

just a note about my personal experiences with people included in this list.I contacted four that were within a reasonable distance for me to have a timing belt job done.The first failed to respond to messages left.The second agreed to do the work then later declined.The third quoted around $1100 - $1400.The fourth did the job today,as quoted ( $643.45 inc.parts / labor / taxes ).Thanks Jason of L&S in Port Jervis NY.I'll keep you posted and will be back with my 2006 before too long.
